The media have learnt so much from previous incidences of having made precipitate accusations ...

But the media felt it right to publicly name and shame them, even though they’ve been released without charge and the guy’s boss has a cast-iron alibi for him.

They should sue the scum media.

The mail will now, with no sense of irony, offer them £50k for their story.

I'd happily take being wrongfully accused of flying drones for a £50k payday.

There is a very good piece in the Times by Max Hastings about this, this week-end, well worth the read, I can't post it as I am not a Times subscriber

Other reports make the point that Grayling has ignored the warnings about drones for too long & the military had to borrow kit from a contractor

Hmm, dunno, their lives are probably ruined already over this, house will probably be targeted...

Disgusting naming them, I'd drag them through courts for this..

Really though? They'll be forgotten in the first week of January, but they'll still have the best part of £50k left and a great story for the pub.

Questions for the police too. Did they able everything on one neighbour saying "Oh, that bloke has a drone" because it certainly looks like it.

If you, for example, were offered the opportunity by the mail to have your story told by them, they'd dig up absolutely everything about you and chuck that in the story too.

In your case, I suspect the first words would be 'Convicted football hooligan...'

The headline was carefully worded to avoid that. And the pockets of the mail are very deep.

Let's hope they and the Shun are the first two to go out of biz in the rapidly declining print media sector. They're morally bankrupt already, just need the financial aspect to follow.

Clearly they don't have a clue who did it so they picked the biggest local drone enthusiast they could find and then questioned him for two days even though his boss said he was at work both days.

A total shambles, adding to the already gargantuan shambles of the handling of the incident at the airport.

Still wouldn't care, and I honestly mean that. They'd be able to dig up a lot of dirt on me if I'm honest, but everybody who has met me will have paint their opinion of me based on who I am, not what I've done.

I'll take the £50k all day long. A very good sum to help you have a much more comfortable life, or to have the best 6 months of your life. I'd probably do the latter, but each to their own.

Is there any chance the police knew it wasn't them but there was enough for them to pretend it was worth arresting them? If you're the real culprit and they arrest someone, surely you'd keep a low profile? Could it have been a temporary solution to the problem to get flights going again and save Christmas for many people?

I'm sure it wasn't but an interesting idea IMO. Imagine if it came out that the 'morons who ruined Christmas' were the saviours of Christmas and were never really even arrested.

That's one big conspiracy theory there.

My first thought when it was said they had an alibi is that the incident may well have had a group behind it so no one perpetrator was active at all times.

However, it appears they have no evidence on which to base a prosecution. Their names should not have been made public in that case.
