Middlesbrough away - rail strike will impact some Town fans 20:27 - Dec 27 with 712 viewslinhdi

As if it isn't far enough and difficult enough to get to in normal times, trains to and from Middlesbrough are affected by Northern Rail strike action this weekend. The return to London via Darlington after the match (dep Boro at 1743 for Darlington) will not be running. There are later options, but they will mess up connections, for which you probably have a train-specific Advance ticket.

I've spoken to LNER (east coast main line bit), Northern Rail, and Greater Anglia (bought the ticket on their website) and have had inconsistent and contradictory information, mostly including the "buy another ticket" option, that is hideously expensive. LNER did say they would rebook passengers who had booked through them, at no extra cost, but Greater Anglia said this was not an option.

The best option seems to be to plead confusion and ignorance at Boro station post-match, and station or train staff may well see sense and get you on your way; a separate discussion if you then miss your LNER service will also be needed.

If you're travelling via York, that appears OK.

Hi,
If you miss a booked train due to a cancellation of another, or a late rail replacement bus service, or a late train then they cannot deny you getting on a later train, or if the final connection is missed, they must supply transport at their cost for you.

Plus you will be able to claim for / recieve a refund for getting home late (if more than 30 mins)
