Should Lambert be doing better defensively? 17:32 - Dec 29 with 1769 views | reusersfreekicks | I know the defenders aren't the best but you see other managers go in and drill and drill the defence and organise them better? We are still leaking poor goals and appear very open without enough protection from midfield. I feel for him with 2 unreliable keepers but we don't seem much changed defensively and i hoped for a bit better. Overall I support PL and the change to better football with more pass and move and higher possession levels. However you do see even very average defenders trained and organised to stem the flow [Post edited 29 Dec 2018 17:33]

Should Lambert be doing better defensively? on 17:36 - Dec 29 with 1735 views | Guthrum | Our inability to score (except Sears, sometimes) puts excessive pressure upon the defence and magnifies individual errors.

Should Lambert be doing better defensively? on 17:37 - Dec 29 with 1705 views | homer_123 | This is actually remarkably simple. Our single biggest issue is being able to defend from the front. In particular our forwards struggle to retain possession, our midfield isn't great at winning the ball bak, all of which means our defence is under more pressure than needs be. In that scenario the likelihood of mistakes happening is greatly increased. If we can ease the pressure on our defence, this will help immensely without the need to change personal. One final point as well.....Skuse. Again, we can begin to see exactly what he offers the team by his absence.

Not just scoring Guthers....it's about holding the ball up, which we don't.

Exactly. We have zero cutting edge - and that transmits itself throughout the team. You can see it when we get 30 yards out and players just freeze. We played well for the most part today but as against QPR we just don't put enough pressure on the opposition (or relieve the pressure on our own defence). I'd be tempted to focus almost all our transfer activity on players who can give us some sense of purpose and keep hold of the ball in the opposition half.

The only clean sheet we have kept in the last 15 games was in a game when Skuse didnt play.

Or just keeping hold of the ball in forward areas. But scoring would give us a known threat and cause others to attack less freely. Also gives us the chance to equalise (before or after an opponent has scored).

A striker or two absolutely has to be top of the list.

Oh agreed, it as I've posted, we can't or don't defend from the front, far to easy for teams to gain possession and attack us. Our forward line has both no goal threat but can't hold the ball up either. A bad mix.

Did we keep one today or against QPR, with him not playing?

A striker who can hold the ball up and is better than Roberts yes. However, equally important is a midfield player that has experience and can get hold of a football, create chances and organise the team. Where are we going to get players like that though?
