Great to see a high profile footballer promoting veganism. it'll hopefully inspire others to give it a go. You'll all see the light one day :)

Isn't Veganuary bit of a mockery of the vegan lifestyle?

Being vegan is supposed to be just that isn't it? A lifestyle?

Oh yeah done veganuary but 1st Feb I'm straight down Nandos - seems a bit odd if you ask me.

TOXIC VEGANISM on this board has killed this club & now made is league one bound !

There is a correllatio! As soon as you vegan fruitcakes started popping up we've been in decline! We were in the playoffs just over 3 years ago- now look at us ?

We've gone from eating high quality fish or meat to vegan stuff and not even the good kind , were eating Quorn mince !

No it isn't mocking the vegan lifestyle, it's promoting it

There will be people who try it and stick with it beyond January. If people do only stick with it for a month, it still means less animals have suffered, so it's all positive

I was a vegan when we won the play off final, finished 5th in the Prem, beat Inter Milan and remained undefeated at home in European Competition. So, veganism has nothing to do with it :)

Quorn mince contains eggs, so it isn't vegan

Good for the environment though. Going vegan for a month is a good way to reduce your 'carbon footprint'. Tackling methane is a lot better than tackling carbon dioxide and has more of an impact.

And no, i'm not doing Veganuary.

I wondered why he was was always pulling and hanging on to opposing players at corners and free kicks. He,s not got the strength to stand up on his own.

Meat eaters don't go out and kill the animals they eat. I'm sure the supermarkets will be selling the same amount of meat. Unfortunately, it will be going to waste if people are turning vegan for the month.

Smalling being the football face of Veganism does about as much for that cause as Joe Hart did for the fight against Dandruff. ...

It's time to make the best of it.

Think the viewing figures for this prog tonight ('The truth about Vegans', 10.00pm on C4) may be boosted by TWTD, given the number of vegan threads on here!

Like vegetarianism, lots of people can’t imagine it being possible. By trying it out, testing a few different foods/ingredients and recipes, it’s a way of people understanding that it is possible.

But he was open minded enough to try it.

Why is it a puff piece? I suspect it’s quite unusual for a British born pro footballer to be vegetarian, let alone vegan. The preparation and conditioning of pro footballers is part of the ongoing narrative around coverage of the Premiership. It’s a perfectly legitimate piece.

And its Veganuary, which lots of people will be trying.
