Book recommendations on 13:16 - Jan 6 with 3409 views | CaptainAhab | How about a bit of historical fiction? Hilary Mantel's Wolf Hall and Bring Up the Bodies were brilliant if you could get past the first person style. The C J Sansom Shardlake series are great too. I'm currently reading The Terror about the doomed Arctic expedition of the 19th century, which is incredible, if you don't mind supernatural themes.

Mainly the style, to be honest. I find Orwell at his best doing autobiographical, or semi-autobiographical, stuff. His essays are also very good. Also not a mad fan of futurism, which is essentially what 1984 is. The message is great but far from subtle. Still, a very important book, just not my bag in terms of what Orwell produced.

And yes, that's the weakest of Dawkins' books I've read. Some of his other stuff is worth reading, probably starting with The Greatest Show on Earth and easy(ish) introduction to evolution. The Blind Watchmaker and Unweaving the Rainbow are good too, if more detailed.

Fiction, I’d recommend the fiction novels by another snooker player: Ronnie O’Sullivan. It’s on book three now and follows a character called Frankie James. Surprisingly good.

I've read that one. It's interesting how countries face many of the same issues today as they did centuries ago based purely on geography.
