Les Misérables on BBC 21:22 - Jan 7 with 3602 viewsOxford_Blue

is one of the best dramas I’ve seen for a long time.

I read the novel a while ago (which was a labour of love, and stays with me) but I really like the adaptation. Well done BBC. So much better than the adaptation of Vanity Fair by ITV (one of my favourites novels) which was too self aware and glossy for my liking.

It is really good, I've never seen the musical, so didn't know what to expect, but really good so far.

I see there's a six-part drama of Les Miserables starting tonight by factual_blue 30 Dec 2018 20:24
Has there ever been a six-part drama created from a musical before? Quite a bold step really. Well done the BBC.

The musical is awful. It’s aimed at happy clappy morons and tourists.

The novel is an angry indictment of the poor and the destitute’s treatment by the state and by power; and of redemption and hope in the face of hopelessness.

I find it depressing that whenever Les Misérables is mentioned, most people think of the musical.

Iit is a great drama. Just pleased it was made by the BBC as they have made the characters look dirty and poor.
If this had been an american production the women would all have perfect teeth and look well fed.

Of course the first English language version was directed by a Town fan.

The worst bit about the musical was when Wolverine and Maximus had a fight and namby-pambied around like it was the early rounds of the Suffolk over-50s fencing tournament crossed with Stars in their Eyes ("Tonight Matthew I'm going to be a generic New Romantic band front man on a desparate comeback tour!")

Adamantium claws versus a Gladius short-sword would have been awesome!

'I find it depressing that whenever Les Misérables is mentioned, most people think of the musical.'

Hardly surprising when it has run for over 30 years making it the longest running musical in the West End!

I expect the copywriter laws weren't as strong back then and that is how Victor Hugo got away with ripping it off from the musical. He should be ashamed of himself.

I only started watching it because of Lily Collins, but was hooked pretty quickly.

Only seen Episode 1 so far, but having not seen the Musical and not really knowing much about the story line I imagine I'll really enjoy it.. Simply because it is all original for me as I have no preconceived ideas or perceptions of what might or should happen.
