Better than Pilkington....

Poll: An interesting day for our politicians, but which one is worse?

That really sums up our ambition and Lambert's presser will be interesting.

Pilkington not signing is fair enough. He's chosen a team closer to home and higher up the table.

But you'd like to think we had a list of other players available. To commit funds 9 days into the window to a player on trial that has done nothing in football and looked poor in an U23's match, speaks to Lambert conceding that Evans is not going to let him bring in anything better.

Lambert is too meticulous to bring Dawkins in and then replace him with an upgrade in the next 21 days (something Hurst amazingly managed to do).

So we are not looking to buy decent League One players who could make a difference and be decent next year, or even looking at decent loans, but taking a freebie who couldn't get a deal with League One and League Two clubs.

Is this guy going to be any better than the terrible Jordan Graham or even better than Roberts? Unlikely. He's a level below Liam Feeney!

Erm, no. I'll be willing him to prove me wrong but Dawkins shouldn't be anywhere near a Championship team.

Bit desperate, doesn't say much for Danny Rowe.

Seems a long way behind Pilkington, but hopefully he does ok

I hate to write any player off before I've seen them in the flesh but this seems to be exactly where we are at right now.

6 month deal with an option of a further year suggests we may well be planning for League 1.

We've seemingly gone from money to spend to try and stay up, to accepting we are already down rather than even giving it a go.

The thing is I can understand signing Dawkins next season. But I cannot for the life of me see how he's actually any better than what we have now. In which case what is the point!

in a lot of ways that could be true. Wether we stay up or go down we need balance, and one would hope this transfer is one of "best of both worlds" about it

Fully submerged.

Lambert won't see the season out with us.

Underwhelmed.

But.... Lambert knows him from his time at Villa... so lets hope he's seen something there.

I sometimes wonder what goes on in training. Surely Danny Rowe is better than Dawkins?

I don't like to judge players before they've kicked a ball for us but as mentioned in the comments it really is scraping the barrel.

One would hope we have a plan B for a winger with proper Championship experience and Dawkins is additional to that.

Let's hope he comes on and scores the winner on Saturday.

Not sure how anyone can moan when we haven't seen him yet. I was delighted we signed Nolan, look how that's turned out, so far. Give him a chance, it might work out, although I also fully appreciate it may not.

Which is exactly what PL said a week or so ago - planning with an eye to next season. He’s not silly, he’s got 1 win in 12 and can see that we’re not going t9 get out of this mess.

I would assume this is a signing just in case we can't get anyone through the door. Why not sign him until the end of the season if he's training with us? If anything, he's playing for a contract next season so should give ITFC his all.

Any exciting signing can be a disaster and any underwhelming one could end up being brilliant. Look at the contrast between signing Bullard permanently and signing Taricco for example.

But fans will rightly have an idea of what we need and nothing about a 31 year old player who has never even done it at this level and seemingly wasn't offered a deal by clubs down the pyramid is likely to be not only a player who can play at this level but one who is going to possibly excel and make the difference needed.
