The no deal vote is not legally binding...so we leave, and let the EU enjoy their forthcoming massive recession!!

By that logic, the ((edit: withdrawal, not indy)) referendum itself was also not legally binding either, it was advisory

Why on earth would we show the EU leaders that we're not interested in a no deal?? Can someone explain...that's like showing the poker table our hand, no?

I think it comes down to, a pro remain government showing the EU they don't want to leave, but also don't want to pointedly betray the voters.

Incorrect - Parliament is sovereign, the voters are not - Parliament are not legally obligated to honour the referendum results pure and simple, it just wouldn't be very wise for to ignore the vote.

You've exposed the futility of legislating against a 'no deal' scenario. To avoid it you need to have an actual viable deal on the table. No-deal is the default position until Parliament can agree on something that the EU will also accept. Even if the only way out is an A50 extension, this still requires every member state to agree.

Clock is ticking.

They passed it into law! So we’re leaving March 29 unless the law is changed!

Which you have highlighted the golden issue there yourself : unless the law is changed. Moving the goalposts is something this parliament likes to do quite often on both sides after all.

You misunderstand.

The referendum act was put through Parliament, it became law.

This amendment you're talking about is meaningless.

The two amendments last night which could have led to statute were the Cooper amendment and the Grieve amendment. Both were thankfully defeated relatively comfortably. Roll on 29th March.

Some motions put to Parliament are binding but others are not. The no deal amendment was not binding. The government have been defeated on a number of motions in recent months, all of a non binding nature. Conservative policy, when they know they wouldn't win such a vote has been to abstain.

It should be down to the UK public to vote on the brexit deal as it stands or stay in the EU, at least this time we will know for sure what we are voting on, unlike the lies and deceit from both sides before the last vote.

Here is the thing, Brexit has been totally upside down - a lot of the planning and groundwork should have been in place before the ballot was constructed - it was not, so, 2 months of confusion remains following nearly 2 years of futility.

To be fair Ireland is looking at a recession if there is a no deal.
A lot of countries in Europe are already if not close to being bankrupt.
