Norwich, everything thing we should aim to be 12:45 - Feb 12 with 7376 viewsGooders7592

This might get some down votes or cause a few people to argue with myself, but Norwich are everything we should aim to be.

Promoting youth players to the first team, and playing them week in week out, whilst being surrounded by experienced players.
Playing attractive football and sticking to it if the results don't come good straight away.
Scouting different leagues & nations for bargain buys rather than journeyman or paying over the odds for lower league players.

Yes this season has been a surprise for them, but wouldn't we love to be doing what they're doing now and since Farke took over? It didn't start great but they've stuck to it and hats off to them.

.... and I suspect that’s exactly what Lambert will do next season . HE was the one that drag scums arses out of the crapper, got them promoted. PL money had given them the edge since.

Do we have to be as incestuous as their supporters are?

You forget that apart from the academy players almost all the rest are overseas players. Wouldn't want to see that at Ipswich.

I dont think any of that is a new idea.

Its exactly what PL will be trying to implement.

They were calling for Farke to be sacked early in the season, but they struck lucky with Pukki. A bit like we did with Waggy last season.

Like with everything there is so much luck involved - had we beaten them at PR when we probably just edged the game then it is likely Farke would have been given the boot.

They have got it right at the moment though, and Aarons and Lewis are doing really well, as are a lot of their signings - everything has just clicked - but fail to go up this year and chances are they'll lose a couple and slide back towards mid table as very hard to go again.

Stuart Webber seems a very smart guy, and has done well - but a lot of clubs have times when they can crow about how well run they are, but a bad start to the season and all that goes out the window

Amazing what a couple of hundred million pounds over the last decade can help you achieve.

Academy wise they aren't though anyway.

A while back we had the likes of Bent, Ambrose, Westlake, Bramble, Dyer, Wright etc coming through and they all got plenty of games because they are good enough. Mick played Downes, Nydam, Dozzell etc but they are not of the same quality. You cannot just play kids if they are not good enough.

The difference is that Norwich have a Category A academy that was largely funded by striking it rich in the Premier League at the right time with parachute money. Their 'star' academy kid was actually signed from Luton at 16 with loads of bigger clubs after him. They could attract him with a top academy and a better chance of breaking through.

It's much easier to do that and stick a few kids in when you can surround them with other players that are proven quality. We don't have anywhere near the money they had because we got promoted when you could come down and be at a massive advantage still. They did. We have good kids coming through but they will naturally have better ones because of the financial advantage they've had in the last few years.

The only way we should be like them is by signing players like Maddison for £3m that we could then sell for £20m. This is something they've done well, but then so have we with Mings and Cresswell and a few others like Waghorn. Just not young forward players that go for a premium.

Norwich will go up. They play some great stuff and they are miles ahead of us. But I would be embarrassed to support a club where the manager sends his coaches into the other teams technical area to start a fight and then gives a crafty little wink or instructs his players to go down like they've been shot. They have gone from a club that lots of people admired 10 years ago to one that every neutral I know strongly dislikes.

Let's not forget that only 9 months ago they finished below us, a team spending a pittance, despite hundreds of millions of pounds advantage.

So it's not out of the realms of possibility that they fail to go up, lose a few players and can't replicate this season.

They are miles ahead of us this season because of how bad we are. But they shouldn't even really be anywhere near us given what they've been gifted financially to pull away.

It's a funny old game, and football is a low scoring game which makes it far more unpredictable and seasons are relatively short so statisitcally is a very small sample size.

If at this time next year Norwich were 14th in the Championship I'm sure no-one would be at all surprised.

You look at someone like Brentford who have been very well run for ages, all that they have achieved since they came into this league is not much different to what we did under Mick

5th, 9th, 10th, 9th opposed to 6th, 7th, 16th, 12th. They've played much better football, had an excellent recruitment model, sold players for large fees but ultimately they've achieved nothing more than we did before this clusterf*ck of a season.

These are the sort of things that should illustrate why so many outside the club in particular felt Mick was doing such a good job here

The real issue with Mick was his style, both in terms of what he fostered on the pitch and off it, was always massively at odds with the identity of the club, as the majority of us fans see it. This is why what he achieved here was not going to be seen as good enough long term. We could put up with it while the going was good, but as soon as it was bad...

Supporters of other clubs will never ever understand that and neither will the media. It doesn't make us wrong, we know what we want and Lambert is much closer to that even now than Mick ever was or would have been.

100% this. There is so much more randomness to it all than anyone likes to think.

Huddersfield became the model that many, including Norwich, are trying to copy but had they lost to Reading in that penalty shoot out those clubs positions could well be reversed and everyone would be trying to copy the Jaap Stam approach (shudder).

In the end, there is no one way to guarantee success, the closest we've come in the last decade was through team spirit and largely British journeymen.

Although the luck that they get along the way (teams around them imploding, losing 3-0 leads, etc) is staggering, they thoroughly deserve to be there.

However, I hoping similar seeds are being sown by PL here and hope that he too is afforded the time that Farke was (by the club, though not the fans), even if that means going down to L1.
