https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/crash-landing-for-labour-candidat

"But local businessman Mike Lane, 57, was unconvinced: "She hasn't got a clue about any of the policies — and she didn't know who Bill Shankly was. Whatever happened to the working class people? They are parachuting these middle class people in."

"She has been the target of intense journalistic curiosity, sparked by interest surrounding her connections to the Blairs and her widely reported gaffes. She was pictured getting out of a car with a personalised number plate — something unlikely to go down well with her would-be constituents "

......wonder who has been pulling her strings !

Didn't know who shankly was? Good for her, not an issue.

Private plate? So what?

But despite that article, she managed to get 53.1% of the vote that year.

Mike Lane may have not be convinced, but it seems other were.

(An increase of 0.7 per cent)79.5 last year under Corbyn...it's Liverpool it's why Blair parachuted her in there! She is no political heavyweight.

You haven't read it have you.

"One traditional Labour voice described the campaign as an example of the "worst excesses of New Labour". Opponents say that concerns over the quality of the candidate are now being realised. "They are afraid that if she is allowed a bit of freedom she will not only make a faux pas but run the risk of boring everyone to death,"

It’s funny how all those crying loudest about people smearing Corbyn and making personal attacks, are now falling over themselves to do exactly the same to the seven.

Not really aimed at the OP but I’ve seen it widely across social media.

Labour are handling this really badly and the attacks on the leavers make them look petty and small minded.

It's a response to those happy to smear Corbyn simultaneously making out that butter wouldn't melt with this particular group. The issues with Berger at constituency level have been there from the beginning and were nothing to do with her religion. (Anybody from the party that has more recently attacked her on that basis would have to be dealt with though.)

If she stood there now her feet wouldn't touch the ground!

I remember a certain Derek Hatton, the then leader of Liverpool City Council, darling of Militant, self proclaimed Trotskyite having a number plate..........DEGG5Y. I believe he is rejoining Labour as we speak.

We have no village green, or a shop. It's very, very quiet. I can walk to the pub.

Some years ago, a friend of mine, long-time Labour member, decided to leave the Party and defect to the LibDems (this was in pre-Coalition days). He was a moderate, neither hard socialist nor Blairite.

The venom with which this decision was greeted was quite alarming. Roundly called a 'traitor' on several occasions. Ostracised or repeatedly brow-beaten by old friends (both on social media and to his face). He still gets some of this even a decade later - if anything, the levels of tribal fanaticism have increased since the advent of Corbyn.

Blackthorn in flower on my dog walking route this morning.

25 sleepers to set today for a raised bed. I love planting whips/trees.

Yep, those (on both sides) who treat a political party like supporting a football team are missing the point of politics completely.

I'm not sure that suggesting somebody is pulling her strings is appropriate given the abuse she's received.

I do have criticisms of her performance as an MP and I think she is wrong to imply that the party's approach to antisemitism is lacking when a lot of serious changes have been made recently that mean cases no longer fall on deaf ears as they did when she would raise issues during the Blair years.

One thing that I will add is that this vindicates the Wavertree CLP's decision to hold a vote of no confidence, as well as John McDonnell's challenge for her to state that she was not leaving the party. They had clearly received notice of the new group and Tom Watson was wrong to suggest they were bullying her at that stage. I would imagine he also knew of the imminent exit when making those accusations.

No, not at the moment

Oh you spotted that one did you ..... well done!

"There had already been rumblings of discontent within the local party at the imposition of an all-female shortlist for this eminently retainable heartland seat. Then the Labour leadership in London was accused of "parachuting" in the 28-year-old former student leader and one-time friend of Tony Blair's son Euan. "
