The Film with Natalie Portman? (tenuous football link)

I watched that a while ago and thought it was decent at the time, but my mind keeps wandering back to it so it has stuck with me for quite a while.. I'd probably adjust my review on that basis and say that it is very good indeed.

I reluctantly watched 'Sex Education' as it didn't look like my kind of thing, but I actually quite enjoyed it as an offbeat comedy show.. Something of a clever story telling which reminded me of a more mature (less lairy) version of Skins

A series called Safe is good, as is Sinners.

I've just read the latest novel (Borne) by Jeff Vendermeer, who wrote Annihilation, and it is some of the most inventive, bonkers, and compelling sci-fi I've read in a fair while.

I'm halfway through the Umbrella Academy which is a bit wacky and offbeat.

The Big Short (Film) is another favourite.

Umbrella Academy is meant to be very good. Bunch of elderly superheroes who end up hating each other and have many disputes.

Best recent(ish) shows imo:

Godless - western drama
Mindhunter - FBI investigating serial killers
Wild Wild Country - Documentary about a cult
The Good Place - best comedy in ages, thought provoking but takes a little while to get into

Just started You and Russian Doll. Both seem good so far

That wild wild country, l found tedious. Got bored after a couple of hours. It just kept going over and over and recapping, it was hyped up, and was utter cr@p.

I second the recommendation for Godless. Had almost forgotten about it having watched it a while ago.

which reminds me. The OA is one of the most original (and peculiar) tv shows I've seen in years. Was certainly not the sort of things I would usually watch, but after an episode you become hooked on what is a brilliant telling of a fascinating story. (Season 2 reported to be added this summer)

Not on Netflix, but I have become more interested in documentaries in recent months and there are a couple of belters on BBC iPlayer (for different reasons)

'Killer in Our Classroom: Never Again' (Aftermath of the school shooting in Parkland, US)

'Abused by my Girlfriend' (A truly shocking story behind the first female sentenced with Domestic abuse and controlling or coercive behaviour)

Get over to Amazon and watch 'Marvelous Mrs Maisel'. It's brilliantly written, acted ... and is just frickin' hilarious. The characters are superb!

Admittedly, I thought it would be rubbish (Mrs insisted on us watching it), but I was quickly won over and binged the two seasons.

Can easily see why it swept the awards. Plus, nice to get away from shadowy spy tropes and dragons once in a while.

Anyway, best thing I've seen in recent years.

The Good Place is worth a try. Comedy starring Ted Danson as the architect of heaven.

I would honestly say that's one of the weirdest programmes I have ever watched. So wrong.
