My post was tongue in cheek in reference to this tweet, which I don't believe to be antisemitic. BUT when I was recently hired for a new role I was informed that all of my social media accounts would be trawled. Thankfully I don' have any (thank god TWTD doesn't count!) but to think any political party wouldn't check for proper instances of racism etc seems unbelievable.
So many have been uncovered in recent years but, then again, maybe that's a good thing these barstewards are found out? | |

As I've just said on another thread, many Jewish people already do, and have been doing so for decades anyway.
I imagine the criticism is that if Jewish people around the world don't have Israeli nationality, it's just another conflation of being British & of Jewish heritage, French & of Jewish heritage etc - with unacceptable Israeli policies/politics.

Certainly, nobody's Jewishness should imply anything for that individual because, as you rightly say, many are already some of the fiercest critics of Israel and its policies.
But Israel reaches out to all the diaspora Jews and says that they are part of the extended Jewish state. And 8 out of 10 Jews themselves express an affinity for Israel.
So imagine if apartheid South Africa was reaching out to whites around the world and 8 out of 10 whites outside expressed an affinity for South Africa ... would it be racist to suggest that generally white people outside of South Africa should do more to condemn apartheid?
I know it's not a perfect analogy but the principle is surely the same. But this is the tightrope you walk when criticizing Israel and the pro-Israel or even tacit support coming from the rest of the world. However, in the current atmosphere, and as Hatton isn't making it clear as a much more general point about the existing connection between the Jewish population worldwide and Israel, then it's not surprising that this isn't going to be tolerated. |  |

I fully agree with the posts of yours I have read on this subject over the last few weeks. And while it goes without saying that there'll be people who hold antisemitic and racist views in any sizeable group, every opportunity is being taken to wield the antisemitism stick at Corbyn's leadership for political reasons. Like you, I have no time for racists or hatred of any stripe.
Sadly, this witch-hunt runs the risk of manifesting real anti-semitism into existence and nobody benefits from that except (perhaps) the very people who are digging for evidence of antisemitism for political gain.
I think this is a very dangerous strategy. But it sure as hell is effective.
There'll probably be a handful of forum members who'll interpret this post as antisemitic but that will prove the point that any defence or sympathy shown towards those critical of the state of Israel run the risk of being smeared with accusations of antisemitism themselves.
