Brings back memories.

That low roof and the history. Ever since we knocked it down it’s been relegations, administration and a loss of identity.

A series of relegations? Nope, try again

My hobbies include being quiet during trips, clapping with songs, and diabetes.

2001-02 and this season. Doesn’t mean successive.

Anyone care to guess the away fans in picture 3?

I guessed it as being Bradford from the FA Cup match in 1986 that ended 4-4. However, I was sure that they packed the visitors bit out more than that.

That middle picture is from 1990-91 season as I believe it was the only campaign where blue nets were used.

Still p1ssed that we have two tiers in the north.

Imagine the atmosphere if it was straight up like Sheff U, Blue Action would have a field day.

Or 91-92. Certainly between 90 and 92 as the Pioneer Lower (or West Stand) had seats installed.

The seated North Stand picture was between 92-95 with the Premier League advert.

You're right. I was sure the blue nets were done away with after one year but having checked a couple of youtube vids of 91-92 (sob), they were in place then too.

Those vids brought some memories back. That Newcastle game was a superb afternoon.

Likewise. Just watched the 3-2 win over Newcastle (again).

Great stuff, thank you.

What that shows is that the capacity of the North Stand Lower is actually smaller than the original North Stand which shows what a flawed design it was.

Atmosphere comes from as big a bank of fans as you can muster.

A steeper single bank, albeit of a lower capacity than the whole two tiered stand, would still have been a better idea. Sheepshanks error.

The North Stand Upper misses the singing from below.

Note: both the upper and lower sections have the same number of rows.

More likely 92-93 thinking about it, as it became the Carling Premiership in 93-94.

That’s what I thought until rangers came that pre season and had both tiers of sir Alf

I grew up in there...

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

Not enough room behind the stand from my understanding as to why they couldn’t go back any further on the lower tier

Not for two tiers but if you look at the photos you see that the single tier was actually a fair way back from the pitch. It would have been much better to build a single tier with say an extra 10 rows or so, and keep a low roof.

I suppose they wanted the extra capacity and a ground holding 30,000 not 27,000 or so, but we never fill it anyway (or very rarely) and the atmosphere has suffered.

Not wishing to increase the jealousy, but during the 3-4 seasons where we built this fantastic momentum that led to Premier League promotion (incremental improvement in playing staff and playing style - which was fast, energetic attacking with a creative midfielder), it was packed in there. Indeed there was a section of seating between the North Stand and Pioneer/Co-Op which would only get filled with a big crowd, that was starting to get full every week.

It was raucous.

The other dividing fence is missing, when was that removed? 3 sections created in about 1980?

2 relegations in 17 years is hardly a series of relegations.

That original North Stand terracing used to house 9k fans, and when we sang and bounced as one it was a helluva din I can tell you! TWTD.

Not sure that's fair. As I recall Sheepshanks was in favour of a single tier North Stand but the road behind the stand made it impossible to get planning officers to agree.

I think that objections from residents of Alderman Road were taken into account when plans were being drawn up but I cannot remember if the original proposal was for a single tier,it may well have been.

What is the clubs stance on safe standing?

I know it was something Clegg was up for but it's gone quiet of late.
