Brand new model, 2 fatal accidents in 6 months after Addis incident today. Coincidence? Doesn't look like it, the anti stall system is forcing the planes into a nosedive if they receive any incorrect data on the climb, worrying to say the least. Especially with how many are in the sky.

Interesting read here

Hundreds of these planes in the air as It type this. I wonder if FAA will force Boeing to ground this fleet. Disruptions would be severe

The fact that there are hundreds of planes not crashing is pretty reassuring.

Boeing 737 = horrible aircraft
To see what the FAA are capable of in accommodating the makers read the book 'The Rise & fall of the DC10'

Indeed, but my pilot friends for BA and Virgin are fairly concerned about this, when normally they brush off rumours.

It needs a certain set of circumstances for this to be an issue, but the software glitch not being fixed seems a lax move right now.

A much higher number of planes have seen this issue and it is lucky only two have crashed

Indeed. There's clearly something there that needs investigation. Just wanted to try and keep things in perspective for anyone flying soon (mainly me!)

I fly most weeks, these are the newest Boeing planes and the likelihood of you being on one is pretty low in Europe as of now anyway unless flying Norwegian air or Aer Lingus, but you can easily find out beforehand.

I fly mainly internally in the US. Often on CRJ aircraft. Sometimes feel like going full Mr T before getting on those.

A number of airlines have already grounded all the 737Max8 in their fleets.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Indeed but the 737 family has a pretty poor record over the years

According to a BBC news item this morning there is apparently an override switch on the cockpit control panel - the problem is that some pilots are not sufficiently trained to remember it is there because it is so rarely used. It will be interesting to hear what the flight recorders throw up.

Really? The best selling airplane type ever suggests “pretty poor” isn’t the view of the industry

Really?

Up to March 2018 there had been 10,000 737’s built and used. Even if every plane only made 100 flights that’s a million flights undertaken.

How many have crashed?

The fall of DC10 was a great shame. Once a great Ibiza venue, now home to shuffling idiots with bumbags and fake tan.

No, not at the moment

A few
& I was thinking of the serious ones like the ones where the fuselage has cracked
and where the fuselage is not very well insulated from external heat - etc. etc.

A few in a statistical population of millions is not a lot of problems like you are suggesting.
