F1 -Australian Grand Prix 09:30 - Mar 15 with 1566 viewsButterbing

I know there are a few knowledgable F1 fans on here. There are suggestions that Ferrari are hiding their true pace in practice for the Australian Grand Prix. I can’t understand why they would do that? If true they must be supremely confident in the car. Can they actually have seen enough of the car in testing to justify holding back?

Likely because you are only allowed 3 engines this year without a penalty and they turned it down today to save it.

Going to look silly though if when both Merc and Ferrari turn it up they aren't miles ahead.

Yeah, it could be that. If it is, surely it could backfire (no pun intended) on them. Others are still learning about their cars and the pace.

The trouble with F1 testing is yo never know what fuel or car weight is as there are no scrutineers and you don't know what actual tests they are doing.

Final qualifying may reveal more

Both are probably holding something back. Mercedes tend to show their hand in final practice, whereas Ferrari will tend to not turn it to full power until the 3rd part of qualifying. Ferrari are the risk takers and will probably continue with this tactic. William will be very worried with their pace.

And now Ferrari look very silly, nearly a second behind Hamilton.
