Apparently Ipswich is bidding for City status again, I saw someone say that if you live in a city council tax goes up, that’s probably why they want city status.

Apparently Ipswich is bidding for City status again, I saw someone say that if you live in a city council tax goes up, that’s probably why they want city status.


You may have heard someone say that, and in practice it may even be true. In fact since council tax goes up every year anyway it will be true.

Since city status is symbolic and the services that you have to pay for are the same on the last day of being a town as the first day of being a city there should be no direct link to extra council tax and city status ( except possibly a little extra mullah needed to pay for sign changes)
