The problem with this country 12:05 - Mar 25 with 5069 viewsHeathlander

Is that the people running it are my age. 50ish.

We grew up without too much angst, parents had houses, 70's was a distant memory. We had holidays abroad, colour TV, videos, music was great in the 80s. We had disposable income. Out on the lash most Fridays and Saturdays. No Uni fees. We had it too easy. Never really had to grow up.

Now it's my generation running businesses and the government. No wonder it's a mess. We need proper grown ups to run it like they were back in the day. But we did have it harder then the internet, computer game generation. You wait until they're in charge. It will be carnage.

Baby boomers are the ones who vote though, and they own the media and either directly own or their pension funds hold stock in large companies. Baby Boomers ruined this country and continue to do so. May is a boomer, Blair is a boomer. Cameron almost was. They really are the absolute worst.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

Angry rant (from a lady in her 80s) yesterday, pointing out that the people who introduced tuition fees and student loans all themselves got it for free and received full grants (sometimes with Housing Benefit on top, plus being able to sign on during holidays).

Not all of us Baby boomers benefitted from the gravy train.
When I owed money the interest rates were 12% + and when I had some savings the interest rate was 0.5% and worse.
I did have a great time though. My mis-spent yoof lasted into my late 30's and it's only now that not saving for a decent pension has come to bite me in the ar*e.
But still it was good while it lasted and I have few regrets.

Yeah, can just imagine the next generation of young MPs. Instead of months debating brexit and looking after their own interests we will get months of debates about wording on gender neutrality and who should be able to use what loo. No-one will dare do a live press conference in case they use the wrong wording to describe anything. The keyboard warriors will have a field day finding offence, correcting grammar and setting up on line petitions.

Just look at our Forum posts and times that by a few million people (sorry if people is an incorrect designation this week).

Anyway cant wait for the match Saturday. Up the towen. :-)

It was grants plus Supplementary Benefit during the holidays in my day. Although I doubt that people like cameron or clegg even knew what a student grant was.

Don't despair - well not too much.
Some of the councillors in Bristol have become councillors through some extraordinary routes and not through the Politics at University route.
They got so brassed off with the injustice of society that even though they lack the educational qualifications they are driven people and the closest you could get to a socialist without belonging to the Labour party.

I think the so called Internet generation you refer to have it harder than you did, kids should be allowed to dream an have ambition, now they have had them taken away to varying degrees;

- home ownership is unlikely
- uni education would leave them in huge debt
- they've never witnessed a booming economy
- they can't imagine being retired
- good pensions and redundancy packages are a thing of the past
- theyve been taken out of the EU, with no say (if the fecking idiots in charge can see that through)

So, let them try to enjoy their youth... there's not a lot to look forward to...

The problem apparently seems to be that everything has to be someone else's fault!
Not content with blacks blaming whites, Christians blaming Muslims, Labour blaming Conservative, cyclists blaming car drivers, the poor blaming the rich, vegans blaming carnivores, gays blaming straights and vice versa in all instances we now have one generation blaming another!
Where will it all end?
Personally I think it's all Marcus Evans's fault!

It's very funny that people genuinely think this will happen. Or that being nice to non-cisgender people is something to be feared rather than encouraged (that one's a bit more sad than funny to be fair).

Long live the baby boomer's. Have you ever thought we got things in perspective. We lived with in our means. We didn't live on next months pay cheque. We didn't rely on state hand outs. We worked our nuts to provide for out kids. We didn't have nursery's to take care of our children's up bringing we did it our selves. The problem seems to in the 2000's is every one wants to compete on who has the best car, the biggest house, biggest TV learn from the baby boomer's
