Any suggestion that we're somehow 'above' this tournament is delusional and arrogant. I was walking through Trafalgar square last night and Sunderland fans were everywhere, partying, singing, behaving and enjoying themselves and today get to watch their side at Wembley. Yes it's not an FA Cup final but we're a million miles away from being likely contenders in that. If someone offered me now the season Sunderland have had for ourselves next year I would take it in a heartbeat. They might be back at Wembley again in a couple of months. | |

I didn’t suggest we were above the tournament. My point is how it’s been severely devalued by having under 23 teams compete in it
Edit: Having said that it is interesting that arguably the 2 biggest teams competing in the tournament are the two that made it to the final [Post edited 31 Mar 2019 15:11]

To be fair though, only 3 of the last 16 teams were PL U21s, so it's not as if they dominated the competition, and unsurprisingly the U21 team who got furthest was Man City.

He is a good marksman, but not a very effective forward. If there is a system which feeds him the ball in front of goal, he will score. If he has to fetch it and manufacture the chances, he won't.

Letting a proven goalscorer like Pitman literally walk away was one of the most daft things we've done in recent years. At least Murphy, Waghorn, Garner etc fetched a fee. Pitman only left because he wasn't getting a game and we lumped it to him when he did. |  |

And our current system wouldnt exploit either. There is no way he would be our first choice striker if he was here now because weve already demonstrated that he cant really play as a lone forward.
Hes a fine finisher though. I recall Skuse said that he was the best finisher he had ever played with and I can see why. | | | |
