Decent hotels in Suffolk 19:47 - Apr 5 with 2247 viewsSwansea_Blue

As a late decision, I've decided to bring the Swanners clan over to the motherland for the Easter weekend. We've got a boat on the broads the week before (channelling my inner Newcy) and then have a few days to kill over the weekend before the game on Easter Monday. I'm out of touch, so do any of you kind souls have any suggestions for decent places to stay that weekend?

We've no plans, but as we'll be leaving Naaarwich on the Sat morning, I thought maybe trundle down to Southwold (I wonder why!). Maybe on to Sutton Hoo for an educational stop. So maybe something south Suffolk coastal, although that's just an idea.

Thought I'd check on here for any suggestions before trawling online. Somewhere quite nice and quiet would be good. Don't mind small or large, but it's a bit of a treat for them (first time the you gest has been to Suffolk), so no Travel Lodges!

Cheers TWTDers

There's a cracking new Travelodge in Bury St Edmunds, with an on-site Costa and just a couple of minutes walk to Tesco.

As if in anticipation, The Torygraph covered this subject not so very long ago

I should add that, living here, I have never stayed in a hotel in Suffolk.

I prefer the idea of an encampment on Gt Bentley Green with a few Somalian friends!

The Plough London Road, Wangford NR34 8AZ, is a very nice place with great food, comfortable accommodation, Excellent Adnams beer and very family friendly as I stayed there with my daughters family when they visited from Leicester.

You could take a look at Keiron Dyer's place, Satis House hotel in Yoxford, on the A12, bang in the middle of Southwold and Sutton Hoo. Might be late to book for Easter weekend though.

Rooms above Jack's Cafe. £15, free wifi and a reacharound from a sandpaper handed fifty something. May or may not be what you're looking for.

Maybe the Crown in Southwold (last stayed there in the 80’s, so don’t quote me. Food used to be fantastic - and it’s in Southwold!
Or the Crown in Woodbridge as a good location - anyone stated there?

Is cost a consideration?

Oh that's a shame, I haven't been for 10 years to be honest but it was great when I went.

If you are looking for somewhere near Sutton Hoo, try The Cherry Tree in Woodbridge.

Last year, I had a short break booked there, but had to cancel because of illness. The accommodation is in a converted barn at the rear of the pub's car park, isn't subject to the usual noise when staying in a pub. The rooms look good, the pub food looks good & the licencees couldn't have been more helpful when I called to explain our predicament.

Perhaps some TWTWers nearer to Woodbridge might be able to comment.
