Where thousands of people are protesting at Omar al-Bashir's corrupt rule, the army was protecting protesters from other branches of the state yesterday.
All the world seems to be on the streets at the moment, with this one being about the cost of basic foodstuffs it reminds me of the situation in Tunisia I got caught up in back in January 2011 - an education to say the least. And as with the Jasmine revolution there is also the division between the President' men being heavy handed and the army appearing to side with the protesters. Another story the BBC ran this morning also mentioned tear gas and I hadn't realised that umbrellas can be used against it. I hope the leaders of the Sudan protests fare better than those in Hong Kong:
