"One of my favourite players in 33 years watching Tranmere. Please don't take him! Can't score one-on-ones to save his life but hard worker, good feet, smart footballer, and hero to the fans."

Him + Keane would seem a decent enough haul for the striking department, I do worry about a lack of cutting edge for next season though, even in L1.

thing is we are very likely to create multiple chances weekly, so if we miss a few we'll score a few.
sears cant score one on ones, but id be sure that given 3/4 a game atleast 1 will find its way in

I think part of the problem is Lambert's insistence on playing one up-front.

We are not good enough to get players forward to support the one, and they end up being far to isolated, with the result they drop deep and pull wide to get on the ball. Then when they get it, there's no-one in the middle.
We improved dramatically on Saturday when we went to two up-front.

Jackson and Harrison have shown they can't play as a lone striker, but they might well be a good combination together - as might any two of them, Keane, Sears. Then there's Morris and Folami to return as well.

Agree with what you're saying about 2 upfront, which would suggest going with the diamond in midfield to accommodate Judge at the tip of that. He looked a lot better second half too when he was given the license to go where he wanted.

I think Harrison will be sold, and it'll be a front 4 of Norwood, Keane, Sears & Jackson next season, plus Folami and Morris returning at some point.

I think part of the problem is the lack of a left winger, which means Judge is (nominally) put out there. Issue is that he then isn't central enough (for long enough) to offer attacking support to the striker and isn't wide enough (for long enough) to offer defensive support to his fullback. He, briefly, played well as a "no.10" but needs to obviously add goals and to form a partnership with a better striker than we have in the squad, IMO.

Agree that it should be a diamond - especially with all the young CMs we've got.

Thought we played pretty well (against a low bar) against Norwich in this shape. Can't remember why we ditched it afterwards.

Yes. It does make him more gettable though, in theory. If he came and stayed fit then, like Judge, he'd be a clear cut above that division. Difficult gamble to take as he won't come cheap even with a huge wage cut.

We are currently capable of mounting dangerous attacks multiple times during matches. That they are not converted into chances, shots on target and goals is largely down to not having the players to get on the end of crosses or to drive attacks home effectively and accurately. Against Birmingham we managed 12 shots, but only three on target, seven corners with no product, how many crosses with nobody on the end of them?

Assuming we do not lose too many key members of the midfield in the summer (most, apart from Chalobah, being our own), then it is unlikely we will be creating fewer chances.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

We need strikers that are going to be in the right places to miss. Norwood is a goalscorer, if the chances are created for him he'll miss a few, but score his fair share.

We ditched it against Wigan as they ripped Stoke to pieces with their diamond a week prior, IIRC and we've probably just stuck with 4-3-3 since then due to lack of striking options.

For once, we're likely to be among the better options and possibly able to pay higher wages than the average.

Disagree. Second half Saturday, yes, we were good at creating chances and opportunities but not making them count. But that was an exception. But normally, we don't threaten to score much at all despite getting into good positions as a team.

Put simply, we threaten the full backs and the channels but not the box and the keeper.

Agreed. Too often, our lone striker is isolated & when we do attack, there's often hardly anyone else in the box, except when Edwards is playing.

Remember back in the day when big clubs would take a punt on these kinds of players? Rush to Liverpool from Chester for 300k. More recently Leicester have done okay with Vardy. Seems a lot of clubs now would rather blow 12mill on someone from Europe

Crosses pg: 10th - 19
Short passes pg: 16th - 313
Through balls pg: 17th (joint 17th or solo 20th) - 0
Shots pg: 24th - 9.8
Shots on target: 23rd - 2.9

I guess we could say we don't shoot enough, perhaps looking for the best opportunity. Or maybe we don't create enough. We get in a decent amount of crosses, but not putting enough of them away.

One thing I can't see is a comparison between now and the Hurst era, so stats don't show a complete picture.

Still a lot to work on if we want to come back up.
