I think Joe is alluding to the final part of the response. I don't see how that fits as response to any question posed to him. The part about it being sad, and he's sad for some of the players, and even if he said most of the fans there were great etc".

Other side of the coin, a few divs should have just grown up, stopped trying to insert themselves into every little bit of drama, and not have flounced about every little thing coming from the manager. You saw it then just as you see it now. Everything gets twisted just so they can clutch their pearls.
I can't blame Mick for winding them up, they deserved it.

I don't agree with how the fans were and their conduct at all.
But, ultimately Mick was the professional being paid handsomely and should have risen above it. And Evans should have been able to exert some control/influence to ensure that that was the case.
The big middle ground between the Mick super-fans and the numbskulls wouldn't have ended up hoping Mick would go because it got so toxic if he didn't keep given them oxygen and painting the fanbase with one big broad brushstroke followed by a 'but'. |  |

Mick is protective of himself, his coaches and his team. Also Evans and the rest of the club as there was nary a grumble about the finances when he could have had a justifiable moan every week.
I'm sure that protective attitude and togetherness was partly why we were a midtable team on a relegation budget. Let alone the insult to his professional pride when know-nothings go too far, I expect he saw those fans as enemies of the cause.
It's a real shame that Blue Action weren't able to get off the ground earlier as planned. Would have made a hell of a difference to the atmosphere and would have done wonders to counter-balance if not drown out the more vocal moaners. |  |

Not sure that's true. Certainly I think Blue Action is keeping Lambert in the job whereas if the moaners were filling the silence then it would be a much worse and possibly untenable atmosphere around him and the team.
Of course, against all of that there was a complete boredom with the Championship and a desire for change too. I think that's what ultimately swayed things and created the void around the club. Mick as manager with 6 years under his belt was always going to become part of that problem rather than the solution unless he kept us at the top end of the table. | |
