I remember that, didn’t they end up taking about 1000 who were guarded by about 5000 police? Well, when I say guarded I mean beaten up by the police instead.
The behind closed doors match is pretty significant.
Fine seems low, although im not upto speed on what their FA's budget is.
The match is insignificant. They arent going to qualify anyway- its just a single match. £20k may be a fair amount to that FA, but its no deterrent to the fans at all is it?
Pathetic- but its what we have come to expect from Uefa and Fifa
The presence of those seeking the truth is infinitely to be preferred to the presence of those who think they've found it.

It was more about the sanctions (or lack of them) for a sizeable part of the England crowd that sang "I'd rather be a Paki than a Turk"
England were only given a warning, I believe.

Tread carefully. Phil gives pointless and lonely trolls a little bit of leeway, but if you're going to start trolling on threads about racism you could be in hot water.
Why should he tread carefully, I just read the article and it never said what the fans said, and that is all he is saying. He is not saying he condones it just stating out a fact

It clearly said the fans used racist language.
What more do either of you need to know?

To get hung up on the specifics suggests that there should be some sort of sliding scale of racistness, and that perhaps a low fine is justified because ‘it wasn’t that bad’.

Indeed. Racist abuse is racist abuse, full stop.
