A smoke machine emits dense vapor or haze as I was once told by a muppet, just looks similar to smoke. God, get ITK.

Unpaid bill most likely (altho the petition was dismissed because it has been).

It's a business model that involves dragging out payment terms rather than a lender calling debt in I presume. Like happened last year when Milne blamed a 'service provider'.

No smoke without fire (n/t) on 13:18 - May 1 with 2387 views | eireblue | Is something that is smoldering, actually on fire? A definition of smouldering: To burn with little smoke and no flame. A definition of fire: A rapid, persistent chemical change that releases heat and light and is accompanied by flame, especially the exothermic oxidation of a combustible substance. Another philosophical point dealt with on TWTD, although it turns out it was just a case of knowing the appropriate definitions.

It's a pretty well-used tactic by larger organisations. We do work for a major international company from time to time, and their payment terms tend to be that we can have the full amount within 90 days, or we can accept something like 80% of the agreed fee if we want payment within 30 days.

Only morons and baffioons call it ‘dry ice’. Intellectual individuals of smoke/fog machine know the correct terminology is ‘dense vapor’ Or ‘haze’. BUT you would only know that if you were ITK.

..Or 'HMRC' as most of us call that 'service provider'. Up there with '2-0 is a dangerous score' as 'daft things ITFC people have said recently'.

Basically that from what I gather. Club wanted to pay a sum on a particular date, HMRC wanted it sooner. Town paid it in March. From what I understand, the petition order is the first step in setting the wheels in motion towards getting a winding up order, which I would guess is probably used as a bit of a stick to get people to comply, but Town were genuinely surprised about it when I rang them to ask them about it yesterday afternoon. A bit embarassing for the club but don't think it's anything to get overly concerned about in a Bolton Wanderers sense.

Re '2-0 is a dangerous scoreline', that's a not uncommon football cliche, am surprised so many on here seem to have been unaware of it until Paul Hurst said it. It even has its own Wikipedia page, I've just discovered: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2%E2%80%930_lead_is_the_worst_lead

That doesn't make it less stupid. The wikipedia page points out it has no basis in fact either. Some might say Hurst's managerial abilities have no basis in fact, but I couldn't possibly comment

Its a pretty common tactic by HMRC (and other businesses). Nothing to see here.
