I thought that too. Not that it makes the slightest bit of difference to anybody in this case

At least that gets the award for being 'easiest 3-points of the season', which any other team playing us could have otherwise laid claim too...

If not playing a game is only punished with a 1-0 we could have done with a few of these.

Or conversely we should have infiltrated and sabotaged every club, forcing them to void each of their home games against us and we would have had a guaranteed 69 points without kicking a ball. That's practically playoff form.

That lifts Brentford from 15th to 12th. Quite a rise at this point of the season and no doubt worth a fair few quid in prize money.

How completely depressing that we could have not bothered to turn up for 25 of our 45 matches this season and been in a better position than we currently are!

The only problem is that would have been wiped out with our home form!

69 points from 23 games is more than playoff form! Lol.

What would happen if Brentford needed a 2-0 win (to go up, make the play offs or avoid relegation)?

I bet Bloots will downarrow this.

Except there is no position related prize money in the Championship!

I think the EFL have just got lucky that this game doesn't matter - if it did for the reasons in your post they'd be panicking and no doubt fu(king it up!

I would think that if the game had mattered it would have been ordered to have been played at a neutral ground close to Bolton.

They would not be able to wait to see if Bolton had got their safety certificate to enable it to have been played there so I think that playing it next mid week at a neutral ground would have been the only option.

Or played it at Bolton behind closed doors.

Which again wouldn't be fair on Brentford or their supporters. The team might struggle to raise itself playing in such weird conditions, and thus not get the 2-0 win they need in my mythical scenario.

I bet Bloots will downarrow this.

That's partly my point. The EFL seem to be making it up as they go along. Surely there should be a set rule for this sort of thing?

There should be something to base the result on for if it ever happens again, I think it should be worked out by taking Brentford's average goals per game ratio over the season, against nil for Bolton obviously, that's fair?
