Posted here a while ago looking for recommendations to impress the wife on a return trip to the Motherland.

However recommended The Bull at Bacton thanks. A pint of Adnams Broadside for me and a Suffolk gin for Mrs Wickwar. Splendid!

Guessing it was Betty’s Gin? If so, that’s named after a huge town fan. Betty was a season ticket holder for well over forty years.

I lived in Bacton for a couple of years as a kid and went to the primary school there, (if it's still there I've no idea. It was getting on a bit even then).

Not useful info. I just felt obliged to mention it.

Great place for a kid to be though.

School had a freezing cold outdoor pool, full of leaves. Put me off swimming for years.

I love in Cotton (hence the name). The primary school is still there but the middle school has gone.

There used to be a farm in Cotton whose main residence was knocked down and rebuilt into a gorgeous home complete with a moat! Cotton Lodge I believe.

Nice family the McDonalds*, and I would spend a lot of timeup that place throughout the school holidays.

*Yes, I know. So did they. They were McDonalds, and they owned a farm.

I was in Pretyman Avenue, which is probably a different thing altogether.

I remember my teacher gave me 100 lines when I spelt my own address [Pretyman] with just the one 't'.

I knew my own address of course, but he was having none of it.

Strange school really, like it had been plucked from Victorian England along with the staff.

It had a fecking maypole in the playground.

They used to hand out hidings for anything and everything.

Still, it never did me any harm, and the nightmares and shakes don't come as much as they used to.

Was that Betty F? I know she won supporter of the year at least once and went home and away every match for at least 10 years in the mid70's to mid 80's.

Betty Laflin was her name, she passed away early 90s and used to travel a lot with the club. You can read a little about the name of the Gin here: https://heartofsuffolkdistillery.co.uk/our-story/

That's a different Betty to who I knew then.

Quite amusing that 2 of our most loyal home and away supporters were pensioners called Betty!
