Where do we have to finish next season for you to be happy? 15:31 - May 18 with 6388 views | skyblue23 | Everybody has there own opinion for next season of what would be a good season. When we get to the end of next season where will we need to finish for you to say “that was a good season”? Personally top 6 for me. Anything less I would class as a failure, but in my mind I want top 2. What’s your outlook?

Where do we have to finish next season for you to be happy? on 16:21 - May 18 with 4469 views | evansblue | I want top 2 and would be disappointed if we weren’t. Worse case top 6 as a minimum. It’s the 3rd tier after all and we can’t keep making excuses. We need to bounce back at the first attempt and should given the size of our club.

Where do we have to finish next season for you to be happy? on 16:47 - May 18 with 4432 views | WD19 | In recent years exactly half of the sides going down have finished in the top 6....so what is above average is fairly clear.

Where do we have to finish next season for you to be happy? on 16:51 - May 18 with 4419 views | ipswichtillidie | Should we not get out of this league at the first attempt serious questions need to be asked. We should be a club striving to play top flight football. The fact that we’re knocking around in the 3rd division is bad enough for one season but if it means getting the club back on track and the fans back in the ground enjoying themselves again I’ll go along for the ride. But make no mistake nothing less than promotion should be tolerated imo. We are Ipswich and if people want to role over and accept mediocrity then that’s up to them. Not for me.

Correct Much has been made of our budget in relation to other teams in the Championship. In L1 we'll have one of the higher budgets and our position must reflect that. I just hope we can get used to winning games of football again, and the kids and new singngs prove themselves to be up to the job to give us some stability and foundation for the next 2-3 seasons.

Jesus, what's the point if you can't celebrate a promotion?
Where do we have to finish next season for you to be happy? on 17:43 - May 18 with 4287 views | Ftnfwest | To compete is all I ask. To have a chance of the playoffs until the end of the season. I would want better but the minimum has to be to be in the mix to keep attendances at a good level for a start.

It was probably meant in the same way you wouldn’t celebrate wildly if you won a romantic night with a Strictly star.....and it turned out to be Ann Widecombe. Promotion is the only goal/expectation, in which position is largely irrelevant. Sure, we’ll literally celebrate but 1st, 2nd or PO winners doesn’t matter imo. I’ll celebrate no more or less whichever of those we can manage.

That’s a depressingly low expectation. You must know us well!

Where do we have to finish next season for you to be happy? on 18:05 - May 18 with 4184 views | bontcho | Depends on our approach. If we really do play the kids and attacking football then in or around the play offs with clear signs of improvement is fine. If we recruit a load of older league one specialists then promotion.

Where do we have to finish next season for you to be happy? on 18:17 - May 18 with 4158 views | Devereuxxx | To be happy, it has to be promotion. And I can't believe some people are saying they wouldn't celebrate promotion because of some notion of our status. We are where we deserve to be, purely in footballing terms. After almost 17 years with scant to cheer about, I'll be loving every second if we go up.
Where do we have to finish next season for you to be happy? on 18:25 - May 18 with 4131 views | Churchman | Top 6, reasonably competitive and playing some decent (for league one/third division) football. What would make me truly happy would be either Evans selling the club or changing his approach to it.

No team has the divine right to be in any division, we are where we deserve to be, i can`t believe some on here think we shouldn`t be in this league because we are Ipswich, but i do agree that we need to at least close to promotion next season for our own sake

In 2017/2018 all three sides which went down the previous season were promoted, namely Wigan, Blackburn and Rotherham. This season Barnsley have repeated the feat and Sunderland will join them if they beat Charlton so that's definitely four out of the last six relegated sides bouncing straight back, if not five. We should be in good shape to at least make the top six and we really need to go back up.

Wouldn't we have only 2 chances for it to finish there (unless our season with lots of matches to play)? Both the lower league trophy thingy and the league cup thingy end earlier in the season don't they? As for the original question, I have felt quite pessimistic about our chances having been so poor this season. However, we have quite a few players who are proven at League 1 level. We really need to get a team playing and staying fit then I would say top 6. We really desperately need to get back up quickly one way or another. We also need to build something longer term so we are competitive in the Championship again in the near future.
