The FA Cup appears to be dead 18:36 - May 18 with 5401 viewssparks

Not taken seriously by the big clubs, or even the lower prem clubs, but still a complete non contest come the final. Very sad to see.

The FA and PL have allowed money to detroy the game in so many ways.

It's amazing that the narrative of a final with two Prem teams has been David vs Goliath.

Got to feel for Watford.

Truly impaired.

They showed a clip of a citeh fan at the semi final who said it was even their biggest game that week. So depressing.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

Maybe something to do with Watford being there (no offence to them), but seems a total non-event.

Back in the 80s against a great Everton side it was at least competitive and tense.

Seems more like a pre-pre-season friendly.

6 ffs. Farcical.

The imbalance even in the PL is obscene, let alone the knock on effect on the rest of football.

The whole thing is a farce. Makes me pretty angry in truth. Wish the FA had some back bone to introduce new measures against at the ridiculous financial gulf between clubs.

The FAs interests are entirely alligned with those of the big clubs. Which is why we get shafted on academy status and are unable to get fair fees for young players. And why Chelsea can stockpile 40 of the best young players int he country and loan them out to see which ones turn out to be worth having and which they can profit from.

There's absolutely nothing special about it anymore.

This is a special team and a special manager who will go down as the greatest manager we have seen so far.

It’s too simplistic to say this is just about money, they are supremely coached.

Agreed.

Can't believe how bloody miserable this board is about such a good performance.

Great final.

Great final? Absolute non contest and boring as sh1t. Watford vs Wolves would’ve been a great final, shame it was a semi.

The big clubs, like City, have such strong squads that they can afford to make 7 changes and still breeze through, especially against opponents who tend to put out weakened sides as well.
The reason people are unhappy about today is that, while City are good, it's get another example of the yawning gulf between the top 2, and then the rest of the top 6, to even the wannabees like Watford & Wolves. This isn't good for the game and is another argument in favour of a European League.

"The big clubs can breeze through..."

That's a contradiction, as no other big clubs even reached the semi's.

I enjoyed the final. Best I've seen for years.

That’s the problem, Watford are an ordinary football club. Man City are the sports division of the Abu Dhabi monarchy. They exist to sell light blue shirts to people in Asia who’ve grown tired of their red ones.

I dont recall Town fans moaning when Town were spending the cash in Sheepshanks and Burely's time, cash we never actually had.

Well done City

Agree totally. What is the point? The pundits never comment on its non competitiveness and the effect that money has had and will continue to have. The hoovering of young players by the big boys, the ability to buy anyone from anywhere, to have huge squads and loan out 30 players a season. They just hide behind keeping their jobs by bugging up nothing and find ways of proving that Watford are in with a chance by describing how, when the only chance they had was to keep it to 3 or 4, if Man City allowed it.
That the FA Cup is a crumbs competition where even the likes McCarthy wouldn’t take any interest in it just saddens me. I am old enough to remember the FA Cup as truly special. I am sad that younger people will never know just how special.

Yeah that’s the same isn’t it, spending £5m on a dodgy Italian goalie is exactly the same as spending over a billion pounds in just 10 years
