What are you growing this year? I'm excited to report, that thanks to my new sunnier country, I'm tackling some melons this year. Ooh Er.

Also, aside from the usual stuff, have a Ghost Pepper plant that is doing pretty well. Seeing as the peppers from that plant are one step removed from actual pepper spray, I have no idea what I'll do with anything I harvest from it...

*climes, you great oaf.

My parsley plants are doing well. That's about the limit for now. Unless someone can recommend a herb which will grow regardless of how negligent I am?

I seem to have unwittingly developed a love for growing all things brassica. I have grown my own sprouts for Christmas usage for the last 5 years or so and this year have got some red cabbage on the go too.

My asparagus bed is now 4 years in and going like a good ‘un, and I think we’re in for a decent strawberry crop this year too.

When my wife announced that she had got us an allotment I thought she taken leave of her senses, but I absolutely love it now.

How long does it take to get an asparagus bed established?

Sadly the soil in my part of the world tends to have rather high levels of undesirable metals, so I'm stuck with growing things in containers or raised beds.

I purchased crowns rather than seeds and followed the instruction not to cut any spears in the first two years (which took enormous self discipline).

In the 3rd year I was able to cut half from each plant.

This year I can fill my boots with the stuff and it’s absolutely worth the wait.

I’m thinking that I’d like to get another bed on the go from seed, which takes longer still to establish but my rationale is that once the current bed is exhausted it will be good to go.

My tip is plenty of manure and keep it well weeded!

Good luck to you all with your fruit / veg growing endeavours.

Ha ha I'm trying to think where I would get manure from around here...I do miss living somewhere with easier access to gardening supplies. I don't drive where we live now, because 99% of the time it is an inconvenience to own a car. But I sure do miss doing a run to a B&Q and getting supplies all in one run!

For a town garden I have a fair bit of space to be fair.

I've created a pretty good mix of a garden with loads of stuff for the wildlife (ponds, flowers etc), plenty of space for socialising, and loads of veg.

Would still love a bigger garden really though!
