Although, as various posters have totted it up today, inc Phil, we currently have a squad of 34 it seems to me that, judging by Lambert's preferences so far, only 17 could really be in line for an extended spell if the season were starting today, these being:

Likewise hope he is given an opportunity, think wide options of Lankester, Edwards, Judge and Rowe are v good at this level.
The only problem Rowe could have is if Lambert reverts to diamond, where he will have to be in line behind Judge for the no.10 role. But he’s played there before at Lincoln so it wouldn’t be completely new to him. | |

I just can’t see it personally. Been here 2 and a half years of which a year (give or take) have been spent across 2 loan spells at Lincoln, with the other 18 months spent injured/out of favour (across 3 different managers too). |  |

That's why I left Rowe (and Roberts) out of my O.P. - because it was my list of those whom Lambert seemed likely to use freely and frequently. Obviously, if that's half-way correct, as others have said, we still have way too many on the books.
I think we'll see a fair bit of outgoing loans. | |

From that wider squad we need to produce:
A League team + bench + spares
Cup team + bench + spares times three (considerable overlap with each other and the above - but unlikely the League squad could play all those fixtures as well)
Injury cover for each of the above
Several players for the U23 squad
Given some of the 34 are inexperienced youth players, some have long-term injuries, a few more may leave and some are decidedly fringe, we're soon finding ourselves stretched already, let alone if the squad is trimmed further. |  |
