So we are renaming a bar 16:32 - May 21 with 7065 viewsChiefXL

In honour of a man who battled with alcohol addiction for a large part of his life?

The OP is clearly offended.

No, he's not. As he's already stated.

Having known ChiefXL on here for many years, going back to the Royle Wars, the Pablo Debate, the Burley Extinction Event, if there is one thing he certainly is not, it's a flouncing wimp. He is making a perfectly good point IMVHO. Youre absolutely right.

You had me at hello xxxx

Would now be a good time to introduce a ‘snowflake of the month’ award?

As others have mentioned on here, I suspect the Beat would be delighted with the decision!

No. Because nobody is flouncing or offended.

Perfectly decent idea, but it's not really a public area where fans can go.

IMO (and at the risk of being controversial), given there's going to be a statue and the club has a number of legends not honoured in bronze, the renaming isn't really necessary.

I agree with you actually.

Not to take anything away from KB naturally, but when it comes to honouring more former players in the future, where will that be?

Unless the club plans to open more bars of course, which is fine.

Just retire the shirt number as they do in US sports.

Can't recall a single instance of ChiefXL flouncing it up. I make you right. If anyone is offended here it was the bloke who was chucking the accusation around. As ever, projection is ruled the root cause.

Chiefy is a good dude for sure - I have had the pleasure of many a discussion with him in the past!

He does make a valid point - but I also think that this will have been done with some consultation with his family first

Hang on! Before we all lose the original point of this wavering thread!
I think we all agree that "Beattie's Bar" is a wonderful idea.
But, why not also set up a "Kevin Beattie Trust Fund" to help footballers cope with the twilight of their careers? This would honour the Great Kevin (as we agree, our best ever player) by something very, very special.
If ITFC would help organise (and help fund?) this, it would be a pertinent and fitting memorial to our star player, and also set a much needed precedent - there is little care for the many troubled ex-pros when they have a whole raft of problems at the end of their playing days, after all.
Just a thought.......

Are his family offended? No
Do the majority see this as a fitting tribute to a great player? Yes

If you can’t see the snowflakeyness of the OP, then maybe we’ll just move on.

No so much the ones ending now but the ones who were Beat's age who don't have a pot to piss in now with football injuries affecting their health should have something to fall back on.

As the same thought would be expressed far more widely if a bar was to be named at Ol Trafford as the George Best Bar, or a bar at Sid James Road as Gazza's.

Unfortunately we are in a world now were if you question certain subject matter then you will quickly set off the 'pc gone mad' brigade into a howling rage.

And for my sins I used ti have a dink or two with a chap who worked at the BBC who worked in some department and told us that they used to be inundated with complainst about Jeemy Clarkson. thei complaint was about the pc types who cannot take a joke and will complain about anything nowadays.

The odd thing he told us was that there never were these complaints about Clarkson, just numpties complaining about the non existent complaints !

And I hope I am not supposed to be offended on someone's behalf because I have posted my thoughts.

indeed. No doubt a well intentioned tribute but does seem a little off.

On the contrary, it seems to me that as Ipswich fans knew & love the Beat, and most are aware of his struggles with the bottle, the consequent pause to refect about the implications of the tribute makes it a superb and very apt one.

Poll: Why can't/don't we protest like the French do? 🤔
