Particularly the practice of embargoing stories, for weeks it seems. The part I find most staggering is that this is just press conference guff, the sort of stuff that no sensible fan would over-analyse constantly. Ah....

He is right about most of it — the access issue in particular gets no better. There remains some sense in embargoing stuff when there is so much noise and clamour after a big game, in particular. Sometimes it can be great, other times unusable, it's just how it is and overall it's a direct result of bigger factors rather than an indictment of industry practices.

What was not good in that piece was the "tabloid scufflers" phrase. Perhaps he could have spoken to one. Instead the tone sits a little uneasily and there's a bit of the same old "US long-form writer preaching from up high" feel to it, sadly.
