This headline about 45% reduction in British car production due to Brexit 10:26 - May 30 with 1550 views | WeWereZombies | Can't be right, have they factored in that most of the parts are made overseas? More like 22% innit. Seriously there are at least two factors in play here. Firstly, a short time period's slowdown triggered by an unusual event (29th March uncertainty) can read at first like a blanket condemnation of Brexit. Secondly, World markets are complex mechanisms bigger messages get hidden by a single issue. Car manufacturing is facing a much more uncertain future than in previous decades and individual nations need a flexible and well informed strategy to maintain a manufacturing presence. High stakes gambles may pay off but are far more likely to crash and burn. [edit] forgot to include the link: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-48451024 [Post edited 30 May 2019 10:57]

This headline about 45% reduction in British car production due to Brexit on 10:33 - May 30 with 1532 views | Oldsmoker | They thought that we were leaving on 29th March. At Xmas they decided to bring the summer maintenace of their production lines forward to March so any disruption to the supply chain wouldn't matter. That disruption is now scheduled for Oct 31st and this time it will matter because they won't be able to avoid it.

This headline about 45% reduction in British car production due to Brexit on 10:47 - May 30 with 1503 views | WD19 | "The SMMT said car firms had brought forward their annual stoppages normally scheduled for the summer holidays." So presumably that means summer production levels are going to go up!? I look forward to the BBC Headline at the end of August saying 'UK car production up 30% because of Brexit'.....

They might also be announcing that fewer people are taking summer holidays despite an unexpected surge of holidays taken in March. Will the BBC join the dots? probably not.

This headline about 45% reduction in British car production due to Brexit on 12:02 - May 30 with 1440 views | No9 | This is about the shutdown of plants isn't it? There is no doubt a reassessment of demand. Car production is linked to demand generated by dealer sales projections. Dealers have to (or used to) have to submit their projected deliveries for the year in June (the new car, factory year starts in September). This cessation in production was planned by the makers a while ago & will be linked to the dealer demand. No maker wants to have fields full of new cars they can't sell because of cost and potential warranty issues. No doubt a part of this is for maintenance, normally done in August & to change production lines for new models etc. The car makers are likely to limit the Uk to production of RHD models until the dust on brexit settles. The industry claims that Nissan has told the Gov a minimum of £100mn is needed to be injected into the UK supply chain
This headline about 45% reduction in British car production due to Brexit on 12:13 - May 30 with 1426 views | Steve_M | It clearly is impacted heavily by planned maintenance brought forward in case of a No Deal Brexit at the end of March. The figure over the year will be a more accurate comparison however that does mean that there is no longer a buffer if the Tories are stupid enough to crash out in October.

Not if we have the impact of more ships bringing overseas production to Britain to consider. Then again, if Brexit means that fewer people can afford to buy and run cars that effect might be mitigated or even cancelled out. Who knows?

I believe Toyota have made similar noises, still it's drop in the ocean with the £350M a week we'll be saving so I'd expect the Govt to cough up quite happily.

This headline about 45% reduction in British car production due to Brexit on 08:59 - May 31 with 1184 views | ElephantintheRoom | You also have to factor in the fact that Japanese car makers will pull the plug completely because of Brexit - there is no point in them manufacturing here when they have a zero tariff agreement with the EU - that has already impacted Swindon and Sunderland. So no new models and winding down production also impacts production. We dont really have a UK var industry, having gifted most of it to foreign manufacturers. In effect it is already doomed as it cannot survive Brexit. But there will be winners and losers - all those car workers can make a living peddling lies instead of cars, like the people that destroyed their livelihoods.

Honda have made it clear that the closure of Swindon has nothing to do with Brexit. Nor of course has the intended closure of manufacturing plants in other Countries.
