A Sebby Diary
Hey Seb
It’s been a few weeks since I left. It’s gone quickly, but not at the same time.
What a leave we had together last leave. We went to more football matches than any leave, you saw your first win. That was followed up by utter boredom at Preston, when you decided you would watch and count how many times just one player touched the ball. That player was Myles Kenlock. No idea why you honed in on him.
We went swimming almost weekly, you and me. Not Kenlock and I.
You have been doing so well at swimming. Watching you grow in confidence was one of the most incredible things. To help you with that makes me proud to be a father, your father. I love being your dad.
I even got to come to the presentation after your Karate Grading and see you get your red belt. You’re working hard, and that’s what is important.
It is getting harder and harder to come back to sea. It’s getting to a point where I am seriously considering a change of career.
Things on board are as per normal, not particularly enjoying it. Working too hard, sleeping too little, and with food that I wouldn’t feed to a dog. We are heading for the Gulf of Aden and the Somali pirates. They’ve been quiet lately. Last time I said that, they attacked and hijacked a ship. My company have relaxed their requirements for using the transit corridor, which is like a highway for ship to sail through that is patrolled by warships.
The Somali pirates have always said that they are waiting for ships to start letting their guards down.
I am already planning what we are doing next leave, you will still be on summer holidays from school. Camping. Football. Museums. Beach. Walks in Northumberland. It’s going to be wonderful.
