Some of us on here got shot down if we said anything about Joshua...

...just saying.

He's not a nobody. Joshua looked dreadful though.

32-1-0 record isn't a nobody but Joshua should have destroyed him. It was 1-25. Odds were so long there will be some conspiracy theories.

Not seen it but sounds like a total shocker from Joshua.

Was a bit of hyperbole, but if his name had been mentioned on here a few months ago, no one would have known who he was.

And in pure odds terms, he was a nobody.

AJ will be crawling back to the negotiating table with Fury etc.

Well, Ruiz isn't a nobody.

AJ is just another Klitscko, all physique and technique but basically robotic. Fury still has the beating of all of them imo.

Very entertaining fight whichever way you slice it.

He is a nobody in terms of reputation and the bookmakers.

Been saying for ages that AJ needs to grow some and fight one of the big boys.

...the % deals that Hearn has been holding out for will now be weighted the other way.

The US promotion tour has been an unmitigated disaster.

Definitely. The US hype train has screeched to a halt as far as AJ is concerned. Bet he wishes Miller hadn't been caught out now!

Hopefully this is what breaks the deadlock for next year and we actually see the top guys fight each other. Not sure Hearn is/was to blame for that but gives everyone involved a good kick up the jacksie!

Most champions have a defeat or two against their name, it’s how they come back after a defeat that shows the mark and heart of a champion. Most definitely a shock result, still stunned. That wasn’t AJ boxing last night, fatigued after he knocked Ruiz Jr down in Round 3. He just didn’t look himself in that ring.

Joshua beaten by the better boxer on the night AJ did nothing really knocked Ruiz down in the third but then got caught with a punch to the temple and went down himself,
Never really recovered and Ruiz is an awkward boxer being in the sort of MikeTyson frame but not the same aggression just bid his time and knocked AJ down again in the seventh and it was all over.
Rematch will be interesting AJ needs to learn how to box these shorter fighters Ruiz was pretty much awkward to hit for AJ but he and AJ will go again I wouldn’t be suprised if the same result followed unless AJ learns how to box the stoutly fighter.

Interesting how no one on here gave Ruiz a chance, and the post match talk acts as though it was expected.

AJ over hyped for a long time, although any of us who stated that were shot down. This result might actually be good for him.

It was AJ, no excuses.

You're right though, the defeat is probably good for him in the long run. It has cured the obsession with maintaining the '0' in the defeat column.

He's blown his chance to be big in America, but again, that's probably a good thing.

AJ wouldn’t of made it big in the US if he won last night, even the American public didn’t know Ruiz Jr, they didn’t really know AJ either. Winning that fight certainly wouldn’t have made him a star across the pond. Back to the drawing board and start again, but that certainly wasn’t him last night whether you’re a fan of AJ or not that was quite easy to recognise.

I disagree it would of made him quite big in the US and helped promote the next fight on his card which would of been against Wilder in a unification of the belts but that now goes back 8 months I would say and that’s only if he wins the rematch.
AJ needs to go into the ring in his next fight likes true warrior and stamp his authority on the fight and continue to do so or he he could just slide away.

I didn't say he would've made it big on the back of a win.

I did say that the loss is massively damaging!!

The loss is damaging, but he’s not the first or will be the last champion to taste defeat. Let’s see how he comes back in the rematch, if that happens at all. The question I would ask does AJ have you the heart and hunger to want to did it?

Wilder is fighting Ortiz and then Fury, so a Wilder v AJ fight was never going to be happening anytime soon anyway.

You sound vehemently anti AJ. Joshua has fought the big boys ie: Parker, Klitschko, Whyte and he's been after Wilder for ages. Not sure what you mean by that.

For anyone who follows boxing they'll know Ruiz and know he's a decent fighter. He's looked decent on the pads in training too. Classic big man small man match up this one. Joshua allowed Ruiz to get in to close and unload. Should have boxed him at range like his corner kept telling him. Bad night at the office is all.

I think you would of found that fight happened sooner than the rematch with Fury ,There would of been more at stake Wilder v AJ fight money as well as the belts, than a nothing fight against Fury.

It'll be easier now to arrange because Wilder will believe because Ruiz Jr stopped AJ, he'd be able to knock him out. However, it was never going to happened before then whether it's Wilder's representatives or Wilder, they just didn't want to take the risk on a AJ fight - that might change now though!
