Katie Taylor should definitely have lost, I love my boxing but the judges are a disgrace in most fights, something has to be done about it.

Look, I know the standard isn't as good as men's. There are many reasons for that. We all know it. I just don't get why every time there's a thread on women's football we need to suffer blokes popping up to remind us that it isn't as good as men's football. We know! It just makes it look like insecure blokes are using as a chance to have a pop at women.
If you've got daughters who play football, are you constantly saying to them 'great game kiddo, not as good as a bloke would have played but good game". I bet they aren't. Because that would be obnoxious.

Some people get a bit too sensitive to comments about womens football... and its usually men.
I think it will probably be a good tournament.

Being involved in girls football in Suffolk I can tell you there are some cracking players here in little old Suffolk.
Multiply that by the many thousands playing across the country I would say the Womens game is heading in a good direction and will keep on improving.
The FA Pyramid is now setup so that the best players have a pathway through county, regional and then national level at all age levels so the opportunities are there for the best of the best. |  |

As an example of the media getting it wrong. A quote from the BBC today;
"Australias Sam Kerr is the highest rated female player in the FIFA 19 video game. Her rating of 89 is higher than Mo Salah (88)".

Yes, I wouldnt disagree, that makes perfect sense.
Probably the biggest impact will be with goalkeepers. I think the reason that goal keeping is so far behind the rest of womens football is that the female players havent been throwing themselves around the goal mouth since they were 5 years old.

The majority of the girls in her team didn't start playing until they were 9 or 10, mainly because it wasn't encouraged at school and the boys wouldn't let them play during play/dinner time. Had these girls been playing since birth (like most boys i know have), may be it would be a different story.
The biggest difference I see at a similar age group is the 'game awareness'. Boys seem more instinctive about positioning on the pitch and where to play the best pass. Mainly due to playing so much football I suspect. |  |

I suspect it comes down to resources in terms of parity.
The academy system in mens football costs c.£2m per club to run, and even they have difficulty in being viable.
I dont think womens football needs more pro clubs to have girls football at 8 and 9, they probably need more school and local clubs teams. Womens football should be able to stand on its own two feet, and I think it will if its given the chance to grow organically. It doesnt need to be subsidised by the mens game. | |
