They've been outplayed by the Dutch. The midfield are offering absolutely no options for the defence to pass to. Walker is having an absolute nightmare.
But this is a good England team, some players are missing, some players have gone off the boil after such a long break from the last day of the season, and there is still the feeling that this is a glorified friendly.

Alexander-Arnold at right back ahead of Walker. Henderson as you say and probably Gomez but that's most definitely after the event; I would have picked Stones and Maguire heading into the match. Even a struggling Alli would be better than Delph who can't even play a league match.

Plus we're nowhere near as good as people think we are. Seriously, how many of this squad are up to the level of past England players. Gerard, Beckham, G. Neville, Rooney, Scholes, Terry, Owen, Seaman, Shearer, Pearce, Gascoigne, Lineker, Robson, Hoddle, Shilts, etc....
Answer = not many.
We've a good bunch who did really well together in the age group teams ,but few have gone on to be really world class. Kane is absolute quality at his best. Sterling has fantastic domestic seasons but struggles to translate that. Where are the real characters and 'generals' who make a difference on international duty? |  |
