Neither forest nor wood should be without this battling beauty...the stag beetle.

Do you think my name is Alexa!
The larvae stage takes 6 years yet the beetle only lives for 3 or 4 months.

Used to see lots around Playford on my evening walks as a youngster. Last one I saw was on St George's Street, Ipswich some years ago. Caused a lot of panic, but I gently moved him to Christchurch Park, in a container.

Now haven't seen one of these in years. Majestic creatures.

First stag beetle I ever saw was in Castle Hill, Preston Drive pavement east side half way up to be exact. Like you have not seen one for a few years.

That's the larvae that I often find when chain sawing dead trees. They tunnel their way through the core rotting wood. Amazing things which should be emerging as stag beetles about now.

Looking forward to your take on the mighty hornet.

We have no village green, or a shop. It's very, very quiet. I can walk to the pub.
