It's ridiculous. I feel sorry for the Thais.

Literally nothing they can do, they aren't as skilful, aren't as fit and aren't as big. US look like they can score whenever they decide to.

Perhaps there are a few too many teams in the tournament?

12.

Yes possibly too many, when the gulf is that big it's just embarrassing for some of the sides, and is hardly encouraging.

Merciless too.

You'd think they may have taken the foot off the gas a tad at 10!

But they're determined to make every moment on the pitch count.

I think they just wanted the record win once it got to 7 or 8.

TBF, Thailand played Germany at the last World Cup and only lost 4-0, and also won one of their group matches. In the Asian Cup last year they only lost to Australia (ranked 6th in the world) in the semi-final on penalties after the Aussies scored an injury time equaliser.

If they reduce the number of teams in the World Cup to weed out the low ranked qualifiers, it would be largely at the expense of Africa (the highest ranked African team is 38th, which I don't think would be good for the women's game in the long-run.

Good. Our 9-0 defeat at Old Trafford can now be consigned to the history books.

Maybe but probably simpler than that - having played in games when running up this sort of score I think most people get the selfish instinct to want to get on the scoresheet, so very difficult to let up in reality

Also this is only the ninth women's world cup the mens ninth World Cup was 1970 with only 16 teams. The game is developing and inclusiveness is positive but it'll throw up some anomalous results. In fairness the USA were professiona and ruthlessly efficient. Expecting skme bonkers tweets from Trump!

This is one of the reasons I have no interest in the women's world cup.

Has the goalkeeping improved since I last watched?

I bet Bloots will downarrow this.

It must be harder being a female goalkeeper because of the boob situation. I can dive and slide across the goalmouth on my front with no worries. I remember playing football with my ex-mrs in the back garden and I accidentally hit her right in her jubblies with the ball and she was suffering for a bit afterwards like being kicked in the balls.

To make you feel better, Thailand recently beat Vietnam (I think) 13-0.

Dunno, it does seem to have brought some more exposure to the tournament - and have heard 3 separate conversations re the match break out in the office this morning having heard approximately none up to now (aside from someone organising a sweepstake in the run up)

Some of the goals were really good.

Some great play as well, and Alex Morgan would be welcome to come and play for ITFC anytime!
