It's the only reason anyone is backing him. They think he's going to win anyway so if they hop on the bandwagon it might mean a juicy cabinet role. They also know that Boris' laziness and lack of competence means that a place in his inner circle could make them a sort of proxy PM. There's also strong rumours being shared by the likes of Peston that team Boris is essentially strong arming people into voting for him, basically telling them that if they vote for him they'll get a decent role in his government but if they don't vote for him their career will be finished. It's sickening.
They're keeping him off TV because they know he'd get badly shown up and then they couldn't even pretend to be voting for him out of anything other than self-interest and preservation of the Tory party. Again, it's sickening. And because the press is 90% pro-Tory, the games they're playing with the future of this country will go unnoticed by the masses and they'll somehow continue to get millions of people to vote for them.
Its pretty clear that all of the major players have got a favoured cabinet role in mind and its difficult not to get a sense that it is all a stitch up sorted at a dinner party long ago.
Gove wants to be communities secretary Javid wants to be Chancellor Hunt wants to stay Foreign Secretary Raab wants to be Home Secretary McVeigh can be the Secretary Presumably Hancock just wants to keep his current job....
What are the chances of them all wanting different jobs through pure chance? It whiffs....
Gove is the only real fly in the ointment and word is an agreed number of Johnson supporters are going to vote for Hunt just to ensure Gove is not in the final two..
