So the Mark Field incident then... 07:23 - Jun 21 with 31383 viewsDanTheMan

Posted the longer video for context.

His explanation is that he thought she might be armed.

Can't say that he looks very scared, looks more angry than anything and then takes it out on her. Not a good look.

Apparently he's apologised and referred himself for investigation, which suggests he himself realises he's done wrong.

Shouldn't be any more to it than that.

And he's been suspended. He was 'worried she may have been armed'.

Did you same the same thing when your mates Nige and Tommy got milkshaked? Or is it just ok if its a lefty who gets rough handled?

That’s unfair. I haven’t seen Brazil post anything to suggest he supports TR.

I’d ask her to leave but wouldn’t manhandle her. If she wouldn’t move then ask one of the ladies to deal with her.

A bloke would be asked once and if that didn’t then reasonable force would be used.

It's the anger he seemed to do it with too. Looked like he was going a bit OTT in letting off steam. Not exactly what I'd called restrained restraint...

There's also the question of what counts as reasonable force when someone is posing no threat. If someone is threatening you then you have a right to defend yourself, you don't have the right to proactively attack someone protesting peacefully even if they are doing so at a function they shouldn't be at.

This is a classic TWTD case of who can be the most offended by something.

Assault, shoved into a pillar, grabbed by the neck. Madness.

Classic straw man there, Clummers x

I do agree with other comments that there's not much to see here, and it's not a story. Field quickly apologised unreservedly for being a fackin knob. His excuse is pretty fackin risible though.

Sorry Stokie, but you talked about context being important. I think the context made the event a legitimate target for protest.

I'm not so sure about refusing to leave however - make the point and go. But there's no way in the world he needed to rough her up like that - he could have simply blocked her path with his arms out.

In context - people have been killed after attackers simply drove or walked up and mowed down or knifed innocent bystanders.

That moment of fear - when you're suddenly presented with an intruder whose intent, weapon concealment & capacity to harm you simply don't know.

Most people have no idea how they'd react in the circumstances, having luckily never been in that kind of scenario.

Had she been carrying a concealed knife or gun & found out later to be a member of some terrorist org., or a deranged individual, everyone would be patting Field on the back and saying "well done", "brave" etc.

Having said that, it would have made more sense & been safer to pin her wrists behind her back & march her out than to "scruff" her (looks like he's a dog owner, because that's the standard way of dealing with a badly behaved one!).

And as has been said, nobody now is really talking about the content of the speech, ie carbon reduction aims/climate change.

For the reports saying there was no security and there being multiple high ranking MPs and dignitaries there, the biggest issue should be the clod who did the risk assessment. I'm confident our frightened public servants shall be more conscientious going forwards

Just so typical of our modern era.

- Modest overreaction due to zero security that the tax payer is no doubt still paying for
- Person who is not sorry, issues grovelling apology
- 24 hour news, twitter and heightened political divisions from Brexit mean that the storm in a teacup becomes magnified
- 'Calls' for them to be sacked are issued by all of those with nothing better to do
- Our media prey on and love incidents like this as it they focus on getting people sacked when they potentially smell blood

I was always taught to expect a hostile reaction if you gate-crash a party. Although his reaction is a bit OTT.

Completely irrelevant to the point.

I wonder if Field would have been so disproportionate if it were a (big) bloke.

He overreacted, has admitted so, and apologised. Maybe he'll have a look at himself. Nothing more to see here.
