Why hasn’t he had a knighthood? 5 times world champion. Andy Murray got one after winning one Wimbledon. 🤔

Tennis is a sport, and one loved by the posh types.

F1 is too environmentally damaging to be allowed to continue much longer.

Jackie Stewart who admittedly only won 3 (when more than 2 drivers could win it) had to wait 28 years after his career finished before he got a knighthood

Hadn't he won two Wimbledons, US Open and 2 gold singles Olympic medals?

A little bit like my reasonably price car racing golf buggies, mobility scooters and a push chair.

Hardly a level playing field.

Also when JS was driving, numerous drivers would die each season. So arguably 3 is more impressive.

He also impacted on safety, and owned a team.

In what way?

If you mean the travel of the entourage then it's a fair point.

If you mean the cars then it's not, they are V6 hybrids now where the electrical parts are finding their way into road cars. Eventually it'll be electric but not anytime soon.

John Surtees won the world championship on motorbike and in F1, still only a CBE, Graham Hill wins the Indy 500, Le Mans and the F1 world championship, the triple crown that Fernando Alonso is after, he is still the only driver ever to complete it, technically he did the quadruple too as he won Monaco as well, and is only an OBE. It was nearly 40 years before Stirling Moss was knighted.

it will happen Im sure, but the award of gongs immediately for sporting success is only a recent phenomenon

I suppose Britain has had a number of F1 champions (Stewart, Hill (Sr and Jr), Mansell, Button and Hamilton and it’s not seen as a great achievement as it happens regularly. We waited years for a Wimbledon champion and as you say, the posh types like tennis and the petrol heads don’t have the same influence when it comes to knighthoods etc.

F1 is seen as a sport of the nouveaux riches, and has for years been run by dubious characters.

Also, he's a tax exile, which will put him on the slow track for honours.

Although I'd watch the Monaco Grand Prix if it included a blindfolded clarkson on a bicycle.

Lewis once talked to the Queen at a formal dinner when she was sat to the right of him, when you are only supposed to talk to the left on such occasions. She is still clearly raging at this indiscretion, and needs a while to calm down before giving him his rightful title.

And the tine they wouldn’t let him in the royal box at Wimbledon as he hadn’t read the note about the dress code 🤭 (ie no ripped jeans, must wear a tie and jacket).

No obviously not the cars. The logistics.

You have folk on here complaining that a person flies to Spain on holiday, while F1 is traveling the globe? It's just not sustainable.

Murray got his after winning his 2nd Wimbledon in 2016, he’d also won Olympic gold and a US open in an era when he’s been up against arguably 3 of the best players ever.

Like factual said Hamilton is probably fairly well down the list after heading off to Switzerland to be a tax exile at the earliest opportunity
