It’s really quite simple isn’t it 10:16 - Jun 25 with 700 viewsunstableblue

People like Farage and back bench Tory MPs have been allowed to make populist statements for years, unaccountable, that leaving Europe and being outside Europe is going to benefit the country. They didn’t used to, but they’re now saying hard Brexit is a feasible option.

The facts are that a hard Brexit is very challenging, on so many fronts,
Including Northern Ireland.

The majority of MPs feel duty bound to avoid a hard Brexit.

Parliament will stop that position. BUT the general public have been whipped into a frenzy that Hard Brexit is good and Brussels are to blame.

This sentiment within the Tory party is leading to the appointment of a PM who is not fit for purpose.

We will the go into a complete limbo of parliament versus government. Potential general election of a SNP / Labour coalition. More uncertainty but critically more public angst at being cheated out of Brexit (which was an impossible mandate).

All the while we make no real progress on the REAL Brexit trade negotiations.

Simply put - we are well and truly shafted.

A hard Brexit is a catastrophically stupid way to go even if one thinks leaving the EU is the right thing to do. Nobody benefits. Many MPs have been involved in Select Committees on this (this is public info) and have an understanding the consequences. In particular, those that chair the TSCs from both sides of the house and who have had to read the background papers and listen are without exception against hard brexit.

The only reason to elect as leader an idiot like boris is on the basis that his personality will defeat Corbyn. It won’t, because ironically the election won’t be fought on brexit, but on public services in my view.

When questioned, what most of its supporters really mean by "No Deal" isn't. They usually advocate a stripped down or minimalist set of agreements, with prearranged structures to avoid trade disruption. In other words, some sort of deal.

It's actually impossible to leave with No Deal - WTO is a deal.

Especially as most advocates want amended WTO rules (which would require agreement from all sorts of people), not the basic ones.

Its like watching a car crash in slow motion Chicoazul, there is also a large group of people watching the car crash, but there is a big clown out of line-of-sight, singing a song that goes "Empire, Empire we are great, two world wars and we won't be beat, we'll stick it up johnny foreigner like we did before, WTO terms will make us soar!" and that group of people are transfixed and not looking at the crash. But we can see it happening and we're waving for them to stop... but they say "why aren't you looking at the clown?! HE'S RIGHT"

And of course even if the car doesn't crash, just further down the road from the scene is a massive bog of quick sand... that will take years to be dragged through if we can find volunteers and the will to pull us through it.
