Watched him at Old Trafford on Saturday and his draw was undeniable. I for one made sure I was in my seat early to make sure I didn't miss a moment of West Indies' batting, just in case Gayle got out early. There are not many players I would do that for.

Every six felt like an event, the crowd was urging the fielder to drop him whenever one of his drives fell just short of the boundary (this happened three or four times, and the drop was celebrated wildly). Some of his sixes were sheer class. His presence elevated the whole occasion.

Glad I got to see him before he retires.
