If you head to Wapping you can do a mini-crawl or choose one:

- Tower of Ramsgate
- Captain Kidd
- Prospect of Whitby
- The Narrow
- The Grapes

The last two involve about a 10-15 minute walk along the Thames from Wapping to Limehouse. My favourite of the bunch is the Captain Kidd. It's a Samuel Smiths so it's their own beer and cheap.

Wapping is only about 20 minutes walk from Bank or less from Tower Hill.

I'd say that's a massive ask on a hot day unless you leave now.

It's always totally rammed.

My locals.

Second this, the Captain Kidd has the largest outdoor space and is the one you are most likely to get seated, the others fill up fairly quickly especially weekends or a sunnt evening.

One to add to the mix, immediately over the water and a 2 minute walk from Rotherhithe station (next stop from Wapping) is the Mayflower. No garden but a reasonable sized outside deck/terrace over the river, very old pub with a great atmosphere.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

Once upon a time, you could also have gone to Canada Water and sat on the deck of the "Wibbly Wobbly" not a garden but very pleasant on a warm day. Sadly it was towed away and scrapped.

Have you tired this in the Captain Kidd?

Rather good:

You could add the The Dickens Inn at St Katherine’s Dock and The George at London Bridge if you’re headed that way but The George is not riverside. These are more touristy though and fill up quickly.

Personal favourite is The Bike Shed on Old Street. Great food and good beer. If you’re into your motorbikes you’ll see some classics pass you whilst you drink. Decent sized outside area. Sadly no river though.

I have, and agree. Captain Kidd is my closest pub aside maybe from the aforementioned Swan and Cuckoo which I tend to avoid although the Thai food is supposed to be surprisingly good.

I'll buy you one if you give me a shout when you're due in there, I'm in and out of there quite regularly.

As to the Swan and Cuckoo, if you're after a better old school boozer experience in Wapping away from the tourists, Turner's Old Star is a better bet, as seen in a number of films, notably Legend.

The Turner's was my local from 2006 to 2009 — brilliant memories of that place!
