Oi tradespeople! 19:05 - Jul 3 with 4703 views | footers | Mother has just been quoted £1,200 to have her 2x2m bathroom fitted out. That seems excessive, doesn't it? It's in Lowestoft for context, and she wants the new bath, sink etc plumbed in, about half the bathroom tiled and a new floor laid. Over a grand for a two-day, one-man job is a bit much, innit? Or am I out of touch? Guidance welcome, as are any recommendations... Ta!

Oi tradespeople! on 19:12 - Jul 3 with 2617 views | NorthstaNder | We had ours done about 10 months ago. Old bathroom ripped out. Tiles off the walls all round. Plaster boarded, skimmed. Spotlights fitted and extractor fan. New bath, sink, vanity unit and bog. New radiator, taps and shower attachment thingy. New floor, paint and finishing touches. We paid about £4,500 for the whole lot. That might make you feel about your mums quote :)

Sounds like you've got some fancy dan setup with all the mod cons there! My mother is a woman with more simple pleasures, like excessive drinking, tarot cards and dachshunds. I should have mentioned that all the materials etc would be provided. And that she's tight (with money).

Just labour. She's used to my hen-pecked uncle working for free though, so she may just be in shock at having to pay at all...

Oi tradespeople! on 19:17 - Jul 3 with 2576 views | GlasgowBlue | 4-5 grand for a bathroom refit these days. That's what it cost us about three years ago when we had one done.
| |
Oi tradespeople! on 19:18 - Jul 3 with 2573 views | Dubtractor | Assume they have to strip out and dispose of old bathroom? A skip for that will be 150 plus before you even worry about labour. I reckon 1200 isn't too bad.

Oi tradespeople! on 19:19 - Jul 3 with 2572 views | Swansea_Blue | Sounds like a bargain to me (are they any good?). If she’s not happy get her to see if they’ll do a BOGOF.

Well she certainly couldn't afford that! If this really is the cost I'm just gonna do it for £500. Never done it before and am useless at DIY but £500 is £500.

Ah, more devil in the detail! No, I'd say my grandad usually takes care of that sort of thing, keeps him busy. He'd rip it all out and take to the tip himself.

Keep in mind that the anybody that does it will have overheads like the cost of running a van, accountant, insurances ect. on top of the persons daily rate. I'm not a plumber but they would look to charge around £250 to £300 a day around Cambridge. People will quite often quote a higher price when they've got a lot on and obviuosly less when they haven't. Bloke may well have given her a higher price cos he doesn't fancy the job but if it comes off then hey ho. We had our bathroom done last year and the quotes for doing the same amount of work varied enormously. Get some more quotes in.

Cheers, good advice :) Told her to ask about but was unsure of what a good quote would actually be... The bathroom's been a state for two years anyhow... Thanks to all for their input and advice, most helpful! (Aside from SpruceMoose and wkj)

That was with three different contractors with one bloke coordinating everything. A plumber, a floor layer and a tiler.

Oi tradespeople! on 19:32 - Jul 3 with 2472 views | factual_blue | I'll charge £1000. I'll only be there five minutes, and want cash in hand on arrival. I'll collect the money and then 'go and get some parts'.

I can tile and lay flooring but nothing like a pro. If you are using a pro then the work should also come with a guarantee.
