Question for the cricket buffs 15:29 - Jul 10 with 1233 views | GeoffSentence | Why are there only two divisions in the County Championship, then under that there are minor counties. There are enough minor counties for another division or two in the county championship. Why don't they do that? Imagine how exciting it would be seeing Suffolk work their way up the leagues.

Question for the cricket buffs on 15:31 - Jul 10 with 1217 views | SpruceMoose | I guess the money isn't there in the minor counties for contracts/facilities/etc? The current county game struggles to attract spectators as it is, is there really an appetite to go watch Suffolk v Lincolnshire? [Post edited 10 Jul 2019 15:31]

Question for the cricket buffs on 15:32 - Jul 10 with 1211 views | itfcjoe | A myriad of reasons, but in short they are just so far apart it would be impossible. Minor counties don't have the structures in place with regards to stadiums, finances, facilities and the standard is so far apart. Most minor counties players wouldn't be good enough for a major counties second XI

When they joined there was just one league of 17 counties - they became the eighteenth. The counties didn't split into two divisions until about 20 years ago.

Question for the cricket buffs on 16:37 - Jul 10 with 1043 views | hampstead_blue | Money is the core reason. When they split the County Championship into 2 Divs it was to try and focus the better players at the top to improve England. Typically if you play Minor Counties you're not going to get a county contract. Essex did give a young leggy from a team called Unicorns a contract but he didn't make the grade. The game is also different when it comes to transfers, new talent. Young players typically stay at their home county as their development is worked on through schools cricket. If they get good and fancy a chance with a bigger team, Reece Topley springs to mind, they can change.
| Assumption is to make an ass out of you and me.
Those who assume they know you, when they don't are just guessing.
Those who assume and insist they know are daft and in denial.
Those who assume, insist, and deny the truth are plain stupid.
Those who assume, insist, deny the truth and tell YOU they know you (when they don't) have an IQ in the range of 35-49.

Question for the cricket buffs on 18:09 - Jul 10 with 948 views | bournemouthblue | Four Day Cricket struggles but T20 certainly brings in the crowds I can't imagine Suffolk are high up the list of Minor Counties likely to qualify for full status but you could put forward an argument for a combined East Anglian group from Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire
