Great shout, hoping it won't come down to the 20 runs saved anyway but might be crucial.

Any other top team chasing 224 would be confident or arrogant, call it what you want

But with England there is always that niggling feeling that it's going to go tits up

Fantastic bowling display. Wood and Plunkett were a touch off at times but that aside we bowled very well and some good fielding too. This total should be very chaseable but this is England so there's every chance they'll balls it up. We do bat deep though and it will only need a couple of good partnerships to get us close.

I'd say it's more the quite formidable Aussie bowling attack. England are now a team where if one batsman fails, others step up, plus we bat so deep that collapses can be handled.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

NZ only had 16 more to defend yesterday. There have been a few tight chases this tournament so far and Australia's bowling will be dangerous.

Just need to remember that it's 4.5 an over and not to go out looking for 300.

What are we saying then?

See Starc off & get the other 200 from the remaining 40? Behrendorff is decent but it din't swing much so we could hit him out of the attack.

I’d be happy to see us 20-0 after 10 overs.

This opening Starc spell is the difference between a really tough chase or the World Cup final.

The pitch was doing a lot more though, this looks a better wicket to bat on. You're right though that we could come unstuck if we go balls out, a bit of patience won't hurt. Pick up singles, score of the poor balls, see off Starc. I don't want us to go too defensive as that's not our game but just don't be too rash either. If we get a few runs early it will make life even harder for the Aussies as they'll need wickets whilst also needing to restrict the run rate.

I'm making no redictions today, learnt that lesson already so for the rest of the day will restrict myself to commentating on what has happened, not what might happen.

Happy with the start though.

Three consecutive sixes off Smith for Roy.

Probably met with polite applause by the Edgbaston crowd.
