Took the family there yesterday....

For those who remember the glory days of PWH in the 80s and early 90s, you're going to be in a for a shock.... it's living off past glories and is now distinctly third-rate.

Needs a hell of a lot of investment to spruce it up - there's paint peeling all over the place that last saw some TLC decades ago, gaps where rides used to be are aren't there any longer, the rides that are there have been there for years - the "new for 2019" ride is the old Rattlesnake / Ladybird rollercoaster that has had the good fortune to see some paint and some new metal sheeting.
Three of the rides were out of action for long-term maintenance or just generally broken (one of the rollercoasters, the Pirate Ship and one of the dodgems).
The castle which used to house the Mr Blobby show is closed, with no signs of life, the old American style street looks run-down, and the stunt show doesn't open for another few weeks yet, despite the fact the park has been open for the summer for weeks now.

The two plus sides are that there's a decent amount of stuff for young kids who don't see the lack of TLC the place has received, and on account of it being a bit rubbish you don't have to queue for anything as hardly anyone bothers going any more.

I'll be amazed if that place manages to last much longer. It's been left way behind by other attractions that would have considered them an equal back in the day (or could at least compete with).

It's the Theme Park equivalent of a certain football club we all know and love.

How's Woody getting on? Saw him at the food bank when I was last there, said he was getting better but you could still see the track marks.

Went to Gorlseton beach Saturday & was saying to the missus on the way up there we should take the little one to PWH, but perhaps now we won't!

Last time I was there (8 years old!) was the day we beat Charlton at The Valley just before the play offs in 2000 so I spent 2 hours of my day sat in the car listening to Bryan Knights*.

Pretty sure it was him on comms at that time.

To be honest, for the little one, it would probably be fine in terms of enough things to keep him / her entertained and you and the missus can see past / ignore the general run down-ness of the place... but for teenagers / adults, it's miles past its best.

Nope. Long since gone.

As is the Death Slide, the gun shooting thing, the BMX track, the Ghost Train, the canal ride and the train dining carriages are also closed.

Yes, the Death Slide. To be fair, that was pretty scary to a 10yr old SWGF, perched on top of the ledge with legs in a hessian sack.

From memory, I don't think it was made from metal, but some kind of polished wood?

But the friction burns were something to behold.... and I think when it first opened, the luxury of a hessian sack wasn't used either and you were not allowed on in shorts or jeans.

What a pity to hear how it's become.

Went there twice when a kid, and last time was in the 90s with a workmate.

I almost lost my shoe on those chairlift things when going over the water!

It's lost the magic touch that Mr Edmonds brought to it. I still talk to my therapist about the ritual gungings I witnessed as a small boy. Simpler times.

Pirate Ship (broken)
2 x Dodgems (one set broken)
3 x Rollercoasters (one broken)
Fireball claw
Vertical drop thing
Log flume
Go Karts (additional £4)
Seal show
Parrot show
Sky-lifts (don't open until 12, and they can only load every other one)
2 x trains (where you see more stuff behind the scenes than you would like, including more dis-used junk than you'd think possible - same with the view from the vertical drop ride)
Quite a lot of younger kids rides.

Also saw a fat kid in a Norwich shirt.

Resisted the urge to push him in to the algae-ridden slime swamp that is passed off as the lake.

Not at Pleasurewood Hills but a similar side in South Devon gave me a shocking friction burn on my left bumcheek. I could not sit down properly for a week including a 7 hour car ride home

My last time visiting PWH was when Noel Edmonds was the overloard. Met him and some poor sap in a blobby suit. Edmonds stunk of B.O, the musky blobby suit was much nicer

Last time I recall going there, mid 90s I think, I got a bad nose bleed on the pirate ship that went upside down.

I was not popular when the ride finished!

I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun. I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.
