Skuse and Woolfenden. Also, they'd both be ideal for PL's style of play where he wants to play out from the back both are decent on the ball. Skuse reads the game well, so he could let Woolfenden challenge for the high ball, while he plays behind the youngster and sweeps up the bits and pieces.

Interesting idea, Skuse would probably be an absolute beast of a sweeper in a 3.

Catenaccio, anyone?

Skuse played very well at Sheff U in what was a 3 with Chambers and Nsiala playing along with Bree and Kenlock.

On his showing that day it would work very well.

Skuse could only play in a back three imo. He doesn’t have the physical presence nor pace to be a Centre back per se.

He did win most of his aerial duels at Sheff U but yes he is far more suited to a three rather than two at the back.

He doesn't need the physical presence as Woolfenden provides that, all centre backs don't have to be huge great beasts of men. Bobby Moore didn't have much pace, but he could read the game well and that's a strength of Skuse's.

Putting Bobby Moore and Cole Skuse in the same sentence is an abomination. Moore has a huge physical presence.

Bobby Moore? Physical presence......simply no. The man was a world class defender because he could see things happening before they did. I'm certainly not saying Skuse equates to BM, what I'm saying is Skuse's strength is reading the game and he likes the ball to feet which suits PL's desired system of play from the back. That's why I suggested dropping him back into our defence to partner Woolfenden against Burton, we've certainly got enough options already in central midfield to cover his absence from that area of the pitch.

I would not say Bobby Moore had a huge physical presence, an aura but not a presence.
He could tackle and tackle well but his game was mostly based on anticipation, his reading of a situation was almost uncanny.
Norman Hunter had a physical presence and was unlucky to be around as the same time as Bobby Moore otherwise he would have gained loads for caps.

Unless you and I are seeing physical presence as two different things....
